hero is the chip leader ~80BB on BB
EP, we cover him, raises 5K..fold to hero, we call with black AJo

flop 14K 242

ep bets 5K hero raises to 15K ep calls

what do you guys think of this line?

would much rather 3! this and lead 35% on flop if you want to take an aggro line

as played, you may have won this through sheer brute force, but if he got stubborn and called down TT+ don't be too surprised.

^^ I used to 3-bet AJo but recently reconsidered my ranges and now vs ep I 3-bet bluff small suited aces from BB.
He called by the way with red KQo and told that he did not think that people are able to bluff with ace high like that.
Finally I now think that this line would make sense if we block diamond fd's, but we don't because our AJ is black, so it was not a good play at all.

A justifiable line in a vacuum, but if we’re doing this with this hand, we’re probably overbluffing.

I don’t think this is a particularly good hand to x/raise. I’d much rather x/raise FDs as bluffs. If we wanted to add some hands like this in, better to have a diamond.

Pretty easy spot to just call and see a turn.

Those were my thoughts exactly when reading the OP. Without flush blockers, you’re on a pure bluff from the start. When called on the flop and turn, that’s rarely a good spot to be in. Once you’ve taken that line though, a large river bet is the only option. Given his hand, he should have been raising the turn or folding. He has a decent flush blocker and what can you realistically be playing here that can withstand a raise?

I don’t like 3 betting out of the blinds with AJo to an EP raise. In this spot, I’ll typically try and play the hand slowly and use it as a bluff catcher. I guess you got lucky that he played the hand worse than you did

Calling AJo from the blinds to an EP raise requires playing it perfectly OOP to be +EV. If it were the SB it would be 3b/fold. From the BB it’s ok to flat or 3b but this hand is going to put you in some really ugly spots unless you have an exploitative read on your opponent.

^^ well, it was really good table for me - I played there for 4 hrs and lost only a couple of small pots, but won multiple AI versus short stackers and a lot of bluffs and value hands. there were only 2 other seemingly good players on the tabe and V in this hand is not one of them.
