What are some good poker tournament training sites that you all would recommend? Trying to get better, but I need some good solid advice. Any training sites you all have tried and that have worked well for you?

I was about to start the very same thread.

I’ve been playing poker (MTT’s exclusively) for the past 15yrs. and 99% of all my learning/studying has been from books and watching tournaments on tv...WSOP, WPT, HPT, etc.

Everyone I talk to says books are outdated and no longer useful beyond the simple basics. But there are SO many training sites, have no clue where to go to move my game to a much more competitive level.

Can anyone please help with some suggestions? I have some money set aside for study and definitely have the drive to learn.

Same here. I know I need some help to get to the next level, I just don’t know where to go for it. I don’t want to waste my money on a site that’s no good. I did read something about a training site called Core. It’s through Red Chip Poker. It’s 5 dollars a week. I’m just not sure if it deals very much with tournament poker. Tournaments is all I usually play.

These are both for Tournaments? And if so, do you prefer one over the other?

I can recommend 2 coaching programs. Coaching is very effective. You go through you hand history and analyze your decisions without 2p2 chiding animals being involved.

* Grayson Nichols - just read some feedback about this guy. I has multiple lessons with him and yeah, that's great

* Gareth James. This guy is co-host of the amazing poker podcast and I really like his communication skills and approach to the game. He also has super cool youtube channel, check out this video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55ZLgBCS_0k

I know you said you just joined, but have you noticed if it’s beginner friendly? Does it have content that beginners would need....such as preflop starting hands, c-betting, when to push/fold, etc?

They both have tournament stuff.

RYE is an entire course

RIO is a training video site with a bunch of different videos from different players.

RYE is about $700 for the course and RIO starts at $20/month for essential and $100 for elite.

I’ve heard other players talk about RYE and they also recommend it highly. I’m thinking of getting the apprentice course and don’t mind spending money if it’s good and will elevate my game, the main worry I have is this.....

For $700....what if they close up shop within the year? Then you’re out a whole lotta money.

I just joined Tournament Poker Edge as well. So far I like the tournament sweats and hand histories where you see how the person played each hand with them describing their thought process. I have watched about 40 videos so far and all but one concept (most are 5-10 parts) has been useful to me. I am still early days on the site.

I guess it depends upon your definition of "beginner." I think the site takes for granted the fact that you have some basic knowledge of preflop starting hands, playing experience, etc. I can't imagine a pure beginner would sign up for a training site. That said, you certainly don't have to be a wizard to follow along.

Tons of stuff. I use Doug Polk's Upswing Poker - new tournament masterclass starring Nick Petrangelo coming soon. RYE is also said to be very good and you're learning strat from one of the best. RIO is said to be good but I've never checked it out.
