About 550 players in tournament and 53 spots get paid. Probably 85-90 left at this time. Blinds are 2000/4000 with a BB 4000 ante. I have 60000 chips. I'm UTG+1 with JJ. I raise to 10,000. Button had recently moved to the table. I recognize him, but don't remember much about his play. He probably has 200,000 chips. Folds to him and he raises to 27,000. Folds back to me. In probably 2 orbits with the villain, it is the first hand I've played.

My action?

Shove pre first time. Now go all in. Unlucky if he's got it

<=15 BB's just shove pre-flop first time.

As played don't fold. I think calling isn't terrible as long as we are shoving on good flops. However, shoving is probably better if we assume AK is in villain's range. Especially if AQ or AQs is in villain's range. And if we can include TT and even 99 and some other random hands then a shove is mandatory.

Thanks guys. That is what I thought. Ran into a big hand, but thought I played it correctly.

I think a min-raise is fine here too (to like 8000 or 8500). A small raise from a small stack looks strong so you definitely won't induce bluffs. Added benefit of maybe having BB or button tag along with weaker holdings. Shouldn't be folding or flatting pre to a 3-bet I don't think

a miniraise gives other players a chance to make a mistake. You might get another player to shove over you with a marginal hand that they otherwise would fold or they may call and see a flop with something like 54s when they don't have the odds to make their hand at these stack sizes.
