So, I have been playing live tournaments with BI range 200-1000 euros. At the beginning we have a very deep stack, for instance 400BB. First 3 levels do not have ante in play, then it's Big Blind ante, so the Pot size pre is 1.5BB and 2.5Bb respectively.

What RFI sizings do you guys use at these early stages? I have been observing a wide variety of them..2.1BB, 2.2BB, 2.5BB, 3BB..
Personally I have been using 2BB trying to play "small ball".

I've played a lot of these. When I first startted playing them, I used 2.5 bbs from all positions early in the tournament. Based on some GTO stuff I have read, now I am more inclined to use 2 BBs from EP, 2.5 BBs from MP, and 3 BBs from LP, which makes sense for the price you want to charge BB to call as your range widens.

BTW, I love this structure and have historically done well when we start this deep, particularly if we have levels that last at least 40 minutes (preferrably an hour or more).

I tend to go bigger on the raise sizes when deep, mostly because I still play solid ranges and want to build bigger pots with stronger hands vs weaker players early on. 2.5x would be a small raise from me with no antes and 3x is standard.

You will find sizes all over the place from other players. Rec players will treat it like a cash game and limp a lot and make bigger raises with strong hands. Some regs have a min open strategy and stick with it at all times.

It depends on your style, but I do not see the point in going less than 3xBB when big raises get multiple callers.

I use 4x when so deep. We want to play hands that can make the nuts or nut draws at those stack depths. Building a bigger pot is good for our range. We also want to discourage calls from some of Villains implied odds hands, though at that depth, it is impossible to totally do so. When down to 100 I go to 2.5, etc.

I'm pretty much in the 3x camp unless I have a table that's super call happy, in which I tighten up ranges and go 4x when super deep.

In almost every tournament I play, the first level is now 100-100, that’s another reason to make it bigger.

I definitely size up to 2.5-3x when I’m 150bbs+. I don’t usually go much lower than 2.15bbs regardless of how short I get (besides jamming). I dunno, I just hate minraising even though it’s clearly the norm these days

I like 3-4x from EP and 2.5-3x from LP. If you’re getting a lot of callers I’d raise 4x and then limp some good multi-way hands if raise isn’t getting through.

That is old old school style, which works badly in tough games with HU pots, but is probably fine versus loose play early on.

When deep, 100BB+, i'm sizing 3BB. 200-400BB deep, i'm going to 4BB preflop. Position matters way more when deep, so you should be playing a strong linear range, and 3betting most of your playable range to get head's up. Villains will call you way more in the first levels of tournament, so not a time play small ball.

Build a pot with an overally strong range
