The local room is running one of those $150 multiple flight tournaments, but in this format, you can take up to three bags into day 2. Everyone who gets through a day 1 is ITM, gets awarded 150 immediately, and will also get cash whenever they bust on day 2.

To me, firing more in day 1 after you bag seems to be clearly -EV. For every additional bullet, you have to grind down to 12%, and as soon as you make the money you give up your tournament life and the result you would have had in exchange for getting your buyin back and some extra chips in another tournament. Doesn't seem nearly worth it.

Am I overlooking something here? I hope I'm not crazy...

Having a big stack relative to the field is always +EV.

Entering a tournament with a rake, including staff toke, of 20-25%+ is what's generally -EV. Once you've made the decision to play it, though, you may as well go for multiple bags.
