In this beginning stage i would open 2X. Its a strong yet vulnerable hand.

Standard 4x open applies here if you know how to play fit or fold well.

The worst players are in making it easy to take stacks and set up for a good start. (picking up chips will be increasingly harder as the tournament progressing).

If you don't know how to play these hands folding KQs in the EP is also fine and probably should lean toward that.

4x is fine, but any reasonable sizing or limping are way better than open folding. Can make high straights and flushes deep with this hand, so want to see a flop.

I agree but only when hero not fist-pump shoveling his stack in on non-ace runouts.

Open to 150. 100 is fine, 200 is fine. Size isn’t too big of a deal but I feel you should be opening this 100% early. Would never fold here.

I'd still prefer a bigger pf size, so just for the reason when hero makes a hand or a decent re-draw he surely would end up playing for stacks.

Getting in stacks 400xBB deep is not certain. You also don't want to get in stacks with TPGK. 200 is fine though.

I open 3x here. But then I open all hands at this level at 3x.

If you open 4x I have no problem with that. I would open all hands at this level 4x. If you vary your bet sizing based on the strength of your hand people will pick up on it...

I like to open a lot of hands early in a tourney because I think people remember the hands you open and think it applies to all positions and stack sizes. Later in a tourney with < 50 blinds I likely don't open KQs UTG. It also depends on how aggro the table is and if the big stacks are 3-betting a lot from late position.

open and if three bet, giggle and fold, until you know your players.

2-4x is all fine.

If heavy action happens on the flop, no shame in folding top pair until you get to know your players.

and anyone who would play the first hand of the tournament for stacks, without the nuts, please bring to my table.

400X BB? I probably just limp here, but making any 2-3-4-5x raise is just fine. Just be prepared to play accordingly. When stacks are that deep, and I'm in early position, I've no problem with limp/calling a hand like this. This is a hand I WANT post-flop. This is where I can get an edge.

If you are going to open fold this, reg late after antes have started. This hand has potential to make the nuts. We don't have to go broke with one pair. In particular, if we get called, and are out of position, I am checking most flops.

I think I play too tightly in MTTs, but I would never consider folding here.

I'd also open KQo, but I can see where you might want to just let that go from +2.

I tend to limp here to see how my opponents react to an open-limp. A lot of times at this buy-in level, you sometimes start out with a very limpy lineup. I am happy to see a lot of cheap flops multi-way when still relatively deep. I don't want to train the table to believe that you have to raise if first one in. I'd rather have everyone believing that a limped pot is an option.

I disagree with 2 posters here saying to limp. Meh open limping kqs here seems so wrong. In low buy in live mtts, most players only 3 bet a small freq and are generally going to have a range way ahead of qks.

Unless you have some limp strat where you are balanced.... I don’t feel it’s good. I feel if a hand isn’t good enough to be opened... it’s most likely a fold. Again I’m not anti limping small pps like 22-55 but I feel raising > limping almost always.

In small live tournaments, you don't need a balanced strategy.

3x open. Small stakes is a good forum and this thread belongs there.
