Button is very aggro good regular .. i was 7/12.. 9th place next pay jump,, guy was rly rly agro so i decided to just shove.. was this a mistake? do i always call since we were deeper? Sorry for maybe a little obvious silly mistake but im not sure about my play

Yeah dude you just can't stick 40 bb in like this. You can certainly 3b/gii if you want but this is a big punt.

yeh i thought so.. so what bb+ u shovin there too around 20? flat 30+ ?

If you 3b and villain shoves, are you happy getting it in there? 43bb pre with 88?

15-20 would be an easy shove. If villain folds to 3 bets you can 3 bet some normal amount. I would never go 40BB with 88. Best case is a flip.

See a lot of such plays lately

I'd have some 3 bets out of the BB here to like 6.5BB or so, but not with 88, even against aggressive players. I'd use my nut hands as 3-bet/gii hands, and some hands like suited wheel Ax or weaker suited connectors that I can fold to aggression.

Personally, I use the 10x open/6x pot rule to determine whether we're in overshove mode. So basically, if you have less than 10 times the original raiser's preflop open, or you have less than 6 times pot behind with the action to you preflop, shoving becomes a reasonable option.

Even if the BTN is a maniac, you don't always have to 3 bet here (especially with 40BB. I think it's normally a call preflop and occasionally a 3 bet to mix it up. That massive shove is spewy. You won't get called by worse.

40 BB is way to deep bro, i'd say fold and wait for something better.
