wonder how u guys play pocket 88s in mid position.
I'm starting stack 24k
Blinds 500-1000 ante 100
Utg rz 3500
Two fish flats 3500 pre rz
There's like 14k dead money out there
I have 88s I shoved 24k all in
Utg reshoved 35k
Both folds in between
I went heads up flip
88 vs AK flop ace 6 rag
What would u guys done?

Less than ideal spot for that move when you're up against early position raise and call ranges.

I would fold in this positions, esp vs UTG who’s x3,5. (If I’m BU or blinds I will flat)

May be a dumb question, but is this a 1K buy in or a 1K guarantee?

What reads do you have on UTG?

Shove or fold are both fine, Calling is bad. If you have any reads on UTG, it would help. I personally fold, as I usually read his play as a middle strong pair (QQ to 99). I am actually a little surprised to see AK.

Live 1k buyin. I knew I was flipping vs AK or AQ cuz this fish be opening light pre. Just standard 2.5-3.5x raises pre. Reason why I did it table was passive and 14k dead money in the middle. So that's 50% increase to my stack if I won the flip and a full double up lol.

There are things you need to know to do well in tournaments, like odds and outs, ICM, pot control, triple-range merging, and more; and there are things you need to do well, like never taking bad beats, and winning all of the flips.

In this case you did not win the flip. You could have folded a pretty good hand and avoided it, or called off a chunk of your stack pre and then folded, but I don't think you will find many here that think pushing 88's was a big error.

Shoving is definitely best if the table plays loose, if the table is tighter and/or the 3.5x indicates a strong hand then flatting is probably optimal.
