How to play marginal spots? How to play marginal spots?

For example you have 14bb utg 9handed with 55 do you shove?

I have always taken those spots because shoving is more +ev then folding, but after not doing so well lately i start to question these marginal shoves. Is it better to fold and wait for better spots if you have an edge over the field?

Also if you are on the btn with 20bb and 2 regs in the blinds that are going to shove wide on you, do you openshove hands like QTs or raise fold?

Yeah this is where it can get tricky, I don't like getting in those spots either but it's inevitable in tournament poker.

If you shove more often then fold in spots with small to medium pairs where you are short stacked (less than 15 BB) you will probably make more money in the long run, but may go through a period of getting knocked out of tournaments one after the other.

On the button with 20 BB's I'm starting to open more as oppose to just shove, but again it's heavily player dependent, if they are regs then to neutralize their skill aspect it's probably best to shove on them and let them make the decision. And if the players in the blinds are weak I find it's best to make small raises and let them try to think they can take you off the hand with something worse. You always want to give a bad player a chance to hang himself.

Assuming no immediate ICM implications, when you're under 15BB, and/or the majority of all hands are under 20BB effective, there is no more playing poker. Any "edge over the field" you (might) have is based on a better application of push/fold spots...like this exact one. So if this is a +EV spot, then take it.
