Hello,

I got a ticket for a big field live MTT in a few weeks, and as I mostly played cash previously, I was thinking how much should I study ICM vs simply 10/30/50bb play (and tournament field) for example. I have a feeling that ICM isn't really an issue except for very specific cases in those big fields, so I want confirmation that my intuition is correct.

Like, are there preflop or flop folds that you would never make in CG for 30bb, that you make in those tournaments ? Or can I play a mostly correct +cEV strategy and expect it to be +$EV as well ?

ICM in a big field really gets magnified as it relates to bubble play and FT play, otherwise it's only a peripheral concern. The payouts are typically so top-heavy that you're only seeing small increases until you get to the last 1.5% of the field.
