Coz of icm calling and losing is worse than calling and winning is good as we are not playing chips for face value now

I'm c-betting here mostly (except against straightforward players who won't bet without having hit the board). Checking flop is conceding no overpair and no high Spade. I think we win on the flop enough to justify this.

This gives us an opportunity to check back the turn when the A hits representing an overpair on the flop and a second reason for villain to bluff the river - or to bet out an A high flush draw with worse kicker. Alternatively when no A or J hits the turn we get to fold to a turn donk or check behind. If villain is on a draw and misses, because of our earlier tank call, villain may not bluff the river giving us an opportunity to win with A high.

And of course if we're checking back that many hands, some of them will be pretty good and we don't have to worry about getting bluffed when we happen to have AJ high. Think I get it now.
No prob! Yes, exactly.
That 85% figure you mentioned could be an average across all board textures for a 1/3 size, not sure. Many textures are 100% so I could see 85% being the average of all boards.

Hate calling turn when he bets into our Ax heavy range and snap folding river
