Getting x/raised with a straight.

This is a hand from Sunday Warm-up played on .es
V is an unknwown, not to many reads ingame.
I remember i was for only 3-4 hands at this table.
Except for the BB who´s a reg, i didn´t recognized anyone at the table, so preflop i think a flat is good (even tho i will mixing up with a 3bet), thoughts on that?
So wug???

Do we call here, and call most rivers maybe except a ?
I guess he can have QQ+ and overplay, cus randoms gonna random, maybe some combo draws, but i will not be surprised to see here a FH tbh.

Call turn, call river mostly.

Bad regs raise boats on the turn.

V is not a reg, and like i said in the OP we have no reads whatsover. (so he could be a bad player, or not, we have no idea)

Maybe hand looks standardish, but i was really surprised by his x/r (didn´t expected that), so to make it more interesting I will put 3 rivers, cus obv i didn´t fold, but i would like to know which one we should call/fold and why?
So i call and V shoves rather quickly:

1) 4
2) J
3) 2

Re: Getting x/raised with a straight.

Interesting spot.
Three things that stand out to me in this hand are the Villains stack size, position in the hand, and his raise size on the turn.

V is a sizeable chip leader meaning he can be opening a much wider range of hands UTG+1
Leading for 1/2P on the flop doesn't give a ton of information, but his decision to check the turn is worth exploring. Is he checking to control the size of the pot or to induce a bet from you? Had he flopped a boat and elected to trap you, I would expect him to check the flop not the turn. I can see this play with JJ, x/r after spiking.
The majority of hands I expect your opponent to have here are 9T and a bunch of combo draws. 99 and TT can raise having picked up outs. Club draws and any jack with a straight draw would consider this line as well; tho I would expect QJ, KJ, AJ to just flat turn.

In regard to your different rivers options. Facing a quick shove on 4c I would lean towards folding. You are really only beating a bluff. Jd I would call. I am influenced by your comment that V shoved rather quickly. It is my feeling that a player would take sometime to think about an appropriate raise size in that spot had they hit the jack, while someone on a bluff may see that card and imagine it to be a great card to fire off on. 2s I would call. Your hand is so strong. You're only losing to JJ, 88, 77, J8 and of those hands the most likely hand for V to have imo is JJ considering the decision to check the turn.

Curious what happened

Re: Getting x/raised with a straight.

Thx ^^ really good post and I agree on most things you said .
One of those rare spots that got me confused .
And like I said givin that is .es I would not be surprised he has the nuts here.
Anyway, river was 4 and I folded Getting x/raised with a straight.

The fact that it's a min-x/r screams strength, doesn't it?

Re: Getting x/raised with a straight.

i dont think we have too many hands (if any) that want to bet this size ott. as played im not sure we get to the river with too many flushes if we take that line and boats/quads dont seem to be enough calls otr. guess id call on almost all rivers, might fold on a J river i guess.

Re: Getting x/raised with a straight.

I don't really see a FD c/r as they would probably want to see a river card for as cheap as possible. I don't see myself folding very often here, but I wouldn't be surprised to see JJ or possibly some weirdly played AJ. I think over pairs would probably x/c or keep firing. Honestly this is a tough spot, very hard to fold this hand as there's really only one hand I'm afraid of being JJ.

I´m gonna have some floats that pick-up equity where i wanna put a lot of pressure on his small/medium pp´s (55-66 and 99-TT) , also i would not slowplay 77 and JJ (maybe JJ) , and QQ+ perhaps if some reason i decided to not 3bet (but let´s discount those), AJ etc. and obv T9s.
What will your sizing be here?
I´ll even consider 80-90% pot ott, but i´m open to suggestions

It seems that you take everything to personal.
Anyway, what is your sizing here (and why) and what range do you have here?
Remember V is a random, we have no history etc.

It would be the opposite of this adjustment.
Daviids post is right on imo. Its a factor of how our range gets to the turn.
I guess exploitatively, w history, you know what your doing, but then I dont think otr is much of a discussion

Re: Getting x/raised with a straight.

the guy if he's a random pretty often overplays 8x/AJ/QQ/KK/AA in this spot and rarely goes for the min x/r with a naked fd imo.
plenty of combos we beat so I call

I can see 8x but do you really expect to see those other hands here very often?
