$200 live event. 45 left from 55 so not near the money.
200/400-400 level with 11k, most between 10k-15k stacks, with one guy 40k to my right. Usual regs.
Limp UTG with 5s5c. MP1 MP2 Button SB and BB come along. Flop Jd8d5d. Chk chk I bet 1700 into 2800, folds to Button who raises to 3600 from similar stack. Folds to me. Have 9k behind.
Like opening the pot pre 3x. As far as flop if we have no read I probably flat. Really odd sizing though not sure what to make of that. Hate to say re-evaluate cuz I hate the idea of folding non-diamond turn ever but let's see what he does next.
Shove 27bb UTG with 55? Maybe it’s the awkward stack size, I considered open raising but would have to fold to a 3 bet (right?), and figured my best chance of seeing a flop was to limp and hope others followed—-which is what I got. IDK
55 close between fold and bet 2.2x UTG, it's at the dirt bottom of our range on 27BB so it isn't a big deal if we fold to a 3-bet because we should have plenty of other hands to continue with.
As played this is a gross spot. I lean towards jamming if only to prevent having the turn go check/check and giving villain a chance to see the river with all of his single diamond bluffs. It's really hard to flop a flush and I think 88 probably bets bigger so in a $200 tournament this can easily be something like KdJx that might actually call off.
I call and open shove if the turn is a brick, unless the button is the 40k stack. I think you have a little bit of fold equity ott against an average stack if he has a bare big diamond, top two or pair/draw combos and you are getting around 3-1 if he calls w the flush to catch a pair on the board.
His min raise with two players between you two looks strong, even though they checked in front of your action. Your hand is underrepped but is like 18th nut. Tough spot.
I hate to fold these spots. But my experience says we never get FE these kind of situation, if we think that we can turn hour hand semi bluff...
I think call and shove are quite equal and probably we are facing against small flush
But I have to give credit to that guy who fold here. But what range will raises UTG opens?
I see only set or flush. Maybe some Ax, Kjs suited as well, but many players around i don't see any point of raising Ax

Like jpgiro, I would fold pre-flop or raise to 900-1000. I would then fold to a substantial 3-bet.
As played against so many limpers I don't think I can fold to the flop raise. I would likely call and see what happens on the turn. With implied odds we are getting the right price to boat up on the turn.
Mostly in these $200 tourneys people who are trying to get you all in have it, as bearer points out. Now it is possible that BTN has J8 but I think that is unlikely as he would more likely either just call or shove with that holding.
Given that BTN's stack is similar to yours, BTN is putting in over 33% of his stack with his flop raise, basically committing him to the pot. People who are semi-bluffing would go all-in to realize their fold equity. So if the board pairs and the turn checks through, he is likely to call your river all-in because you could have a busted flush. Or BTN can shove the turn as well.
