10+ hours into live tournament in Vegas $300 buyin and 11k for 1st. One player just got KO'd and a new one takes his place. Younger and seemingly efficient player with probably 900k in chips. In his first 12 hands of 6 handed he has raised twice in position and wins pot post flop. Limited amount of info going into the hand other then were on the final table bubble and both mid/high stack sizes.

6 handed and Blinds are at 25k and I have a mid size stack of 670k UTG with AQo and I raise to 70k, he is 2 seats to key left and without much thought carves out a raise to 250k.

Unless I have an Uber nitty image, this is a jam. We opened from LoJack. Don’t think of it as UTG. His raise size is quite big (as was your open), but he is forcing you to commit or fold, I commit.

It depends on reads and might be a fold live. I would not be happy with his sizing, particularly after your sizing. If you raised a normal sizing and he shoved it would probably be an easy call.

If you are varying sizing and raising just a little more with hands like AQ, that is probably bad.Adding on an extra 5 or 10K does not make that much difference, but might give information. If that is your standard sizing or you are mixing sizings without an obvious pattern it is OK. However, smaller is probably better anyway when you have 24xBB.

I agree with the other posters that your open sizing is way too big, and it’s really the whole reason this hand is a problem for you. You’re basically forcing anyone who wants to 3! you to size it in a way that makes it committing for you to proceed. Also, I’m assuming you always raise this amount, and if you do, you’re bleeding chips when you open hands that aren’t as strong as this one. 55-60k is a good size imo. Min raise is fine too.

Now that we’re here…if you’re a middling stack w 670k, then he’s a bigger stack w 900k. Was everyone at your table a middling stack? Were there any shorties? The reason I ask is that if he only raised twice in 12 hands of 6-handed poker with a big stack, then he seems pretty nitty to me. Even if he’s getting dealt pure trash he should’ve raised it more than that.

Generally, with 25bbs and AQ on a 6-handed table you can comfortably go broke imo. But I wouldn’t fault you for making an exploitative fold based in his image and the fact that he’s clearly not folding to your shove. It seems to me that best case scenario is you’re flipping.

Again, size down your open raises, esp on a short handed table
