Day 2 with 20BB, raise/shove range? Day 2 with 20BB, raise/shove range?

I double qualified to day 2 of a Quantum tournament. It's 40 min levels. I started at 80 bb but I was mostly card dead and down to 20-30bb. I wasn't sure how to play at these spots.

1) There were couple of spots were there was a raise before me and I hand KQo in the button with 20bb. The raises were from new players so I had no read them. Should I shove here? I felt I have some fold equity.

2) I double up and my stack is 140k and the blinds are 2k/4k/500. I have 99 and I raise to 9k. Player in late position who has a big stack and who I have some history against makes it 20k. I know he has a strong hand and I feel I am on,h ahead of AK. So I fold. Right play?

3) I am now moved to a new table and the blinds are 4K/8k/1k. I have 20bb. I shove a few hands to raises and get my stack to 200k. I see AJss in UTG and I decide to raise it to 18k. There are a few short stacks to play after me and I am happy to get it in against them. But one of the medium stacks in the button shoves. He was also one of the person who folded to my previous raises. So I know it's not a weak shove. I contemplate folding but there is 7 min left for the level and I feel that this is a good chance to double up. The pot equity is over 40 and I have around 30% equity against a range of AA-TT,AK. Not ideal but I decide to gamble and called. It's close to bubble but I wanted to win more money than just the lower in-the-money positions. Is this call always right?

1) Depends on player tendencies but should be an easy jam. Most players don’t call jams wide enough in live tournaments.

2) What position are we in here? If we’re in LP and there’s some history, Villain could easily be 3betting light in which case this is a great spot to jam. I would at least call as we’re getting very good odds. Will be tricky to play post, but I think the odds are too good to fold.

3) How big was the shove for? Against someone who has you covered or close, I think it’s a clear fold. If it’s 12 BBs or less we can call.

Also important to know how far we are from the bubble in all these hands.

2) I was EP. What if his bet was 25-30. Can we still call?

3) yes he had me covered. What would you call with there? Aq+, TT+?

25K it's close. 30K I fold.

3) Yeah I think that's about right. If I'm doing the math right, we need 43% to call (probably a bit more because of ICM), so if villain jams 77+/AJ+, we're comfortably ahead with AQo and TT.

Looking back at your post, why do you think we have to call with 30% equity?

1) what position was the opener? I am folding KQ with 20BB to an UTG raise, maybe flatting if opener is predicatable post, but would jam it over a CO or HJ open.

2) you have history with this player, is this always his 3b sizing? Any chance he folds TT or JJ or AQ if we move in?

3) I need a good read to call off AJ against someone who jammed over 25 bigs against a UTG raise. This is even more Did you range him on AK, TT+? How close to the bubble are we here? The closer we are, the worse this is, both due to us torching the $$ value of our stack, but also because it likely tightens up villains raise.

Thanks. As for 3, I put him on AQ+, TT+. Against that AJss has 31%.

1) one of them was EP and the other was LP. But yeah I could have jammed to the LP.

2) That does remind me that I didn’t feel I had fold equity. So I suppose it’s ikay to fold if I had that read. He showed AK.

3) Yes, AK TT+ was my read. Because I know these players are waiting for a hand since I have been going all in to their raises. Like I said I didn’t care about the bubble. I cared more about having a better stack to make it higher up the pay structure. But I see your point about other players tightening up and we were 5 players away from the bubble. So AJ should be in my folding range.

You have said you put him on either AQ, TT+ or AK, TT+, either way calling AJ to that range is lighting chips on fire, and doing so on the bubble is lighting money on fire in a big way.

Right, so why do you think this is a call? I think you might be confused how to interpret equity.

If I'm doing the math right, we have to call 182K to win a pot that we be worth 421K in total (assuming 9-handed). Assuming no ICM, that means we need 43% equity to breakeven, and calling with <43% equity means we are making a -EV play.

If you really think his range is AQ+/TT+, we really can only call AK/QQ+.

But I think that's too tight. If we take him down to AJ+/88+, we can call AQ+/TT+

And if assume that he gets tricky by either 3bettting small or flatting with KK+, we can call AJs. But even that's super borderline and is a fold when you factor in ICM.

So I feel good about drawing the line at AQ+/TT+

Thanks. I didn’t say that I had the equity to make the call. I knew I didn’t. But wanted to gamble to get a bigger stack. And I also wanted to know what should be my shove/call range here.

1) It can be a jam or a call.

2) I am calling 11K more here you. You have the odds to setmine, you could also 4 bet jam in this spot as others have said (but I think its a very high variance play). I think I am calling 11K and then reevaluating on the flop based on texture and his betsizing.

3)It's a close spot, but if he is a medium stack, what does that mean? He has 12BB? I think the villains range is definitely wider than what you gave him.

Thanks.

By medium stack I meant 30-40bb.
