What is villain's stack size? Obviously, you think you have a ton of fold equity, but if villain has short stack, three-bet (instead of shove) seems super strong and probably never folding, and if Villain has Hero covered, seems like a risky play for tournament life with "several shorties" out there @ 25BB.
In a six-max game this seems reasonable as a 4-bet, especially vs. good villains who can find the fold button. Existence of "several shorties" might make me more inclined to fold, though, and I don't think flatting for 20% of our stack is a particularly good option.
Kill Phil mentality here. When I'm playing very good players and am in a tough spot i like to go all in if i have good equity and put the test on them. Better players seem to find the fold button and will pick a better spot. At least you put the pressure on him.
The Pros:
- It erases positional disadvantage
- There has to be some Fold Equity vs a great player 5 handed
- We are only crushed by AA
- We are only in bad shape against KK/QQ/AK
- Pay jumps are small with 10 left
Cons:
- I get knocked out of tournaments more with AQ than any other hand
- If our image is solid ABC and we are an older gentleman then perhaps our UTG open is perceived as strong even though we are really HJ... So her hand may be very strong as a result
- May be better spots? We are likely flipping (with the worst of it) at best when called. I can't see AJ/KQ and worse calling our shove.
I might reconsider if my history has been to show only solid hands with UTG/UTG+1 opens 6 handed and she has only shown strong 3-bets. But with 25 BB's I don't think I throw away this opportunity...
Several is a word that seems to mean different things to different people so shorties as in around 5? Some of those ~desperate? Makes me inclined to sigh fold even though it feels gross
