Live $2200 mtt. 40 min blind levels. level 2 just started blinds are 50/100 no ante.

we have 22975 chips. wake up with A 5
table has been fairly tight. a couple of players have opened limped and couple have opened raised. no manics. noone has less than 20,000 chips and noone has more than 26,500 chips. no tells on players yet to act.

We havent played a hand. how would you play this hand?

Id probably open larger, like 3x, because we're so deep and have a great hand to stack someone.

Are we really opening Axs here standard?
Is the one argument for that playing 200+ bb deep?

Are we opening K10s aswell?

how about opening K5s as well? I have seen the late lilholdem954 do it with K5s early in a deep stacked 200+ bb online mtt. we are hoping to hit a draw/made hand on the flop and stacking someone.

Yeah, ok. I buy that.
I'm just curiois about long term ev for opening 33% ranges utg, even 200bb deep.
I think you need to be quite the player to turn that into profit. Or my game is completely off, which is possible.

I thought we were discussing standard lines here.
I'm the only one totally okay with folding?

Good point, I'm sure.
Just curious on how you're thinking, since here we're 2.5ing and folding k9s utg+1 in the thread below. Seems to me, it's quite intuitive and as you say "depends".
I'm fine with "it depends", but I always like to hear what motivates an action/thinking.
Here, I just don't understood the difference between the two hands you commented on.

KTs and A5s make nut hands (edit: and strong draws/equity)way more often than K9s

what sort of mistakes do players make in deep stack live cash games?

I'd say
Playing too lap
Playing too lag
Playing too tap
Not being able to range people
Not 3-betting enough
Misplaying position
Falling in love with tptk
wrong betsizing
ignoring implied odds
building pots

"It depends" :P lol

Playing too few hands preflop and too many post flop

If you aren't opening A5 suited type of hands, you have bad 'board coverage'. Your opponents will know you can only have one pair on a flop like 552

Open more hands
Hit more flops
Get chips from bad players before they bust

From weak Ax range A2s-A5s open 3x pre 200BB deep with no antes in play. A6s-A8s you can argue of folding. Depends on how good the table is and how good is your poker knowledge. But judging by the question an answer is you should fold A6s-A8s w no antes even that deep.

A6s-A9s are certainly opening hands against standard bad live players, just remember that with a weaker pre-flop hand you need to see flops checked through before assigning any value to a flopped top pair, especially hands with no back-door potential

against highly-skilled opponents who can exploit, then sure, stick to standard TAG ranges and 3! or 4! if you feel the need to widen your range so you have momentum and advantage post

This is a simple range question at this stage of the event. If you are comfortable opening A5s, then you should open to 250 or 300 and play the hand. If you are not, then fold.

A5s is a fairly reasonable hand to use as a deception hand in this spot, but let's be clear we shouldn't be opening all Axs as that is too wide.

I'm probably mucking pre utg. I see raising fine to 300 but playing A5 multiway early in an mtt is tricky. I would just muck. Prolly only opening if mid position or later in an unopened pot or if I'm raising over a limp.

Not a fan of potentially seeing a flop multiway with an easily dominated hand.
