Had a spot come about a week ago that I'm getting different feedback on so I thought I'd post it here.

we are in level 3 of day 2 of a quantum $375 multi day buy in. 50 people bought directly into day 2 for $2700. 160 total runners started the day. 101k up top. Top 55 or so cash for $850 or something.

Blinds- 2.5k/5k with a 5k button ante.

Hero (Button)- 190k Early 30s WM who looks much younger than that. Easily the most aggressive player at our table in the first three levels. Doubled up on the 4th hand from 200k - 400k after coolering someone and then lost three less than 13bb flips in a row to chip back down to 190k.

V1 (UTG-1)- 250k tight regular. 40s WM. Only opened 1 pot in 2 hours. Has called a few preflop raises. Haven't seen a show down.


V2 (BB) - 250k 50s persian Rec player. Willing to put money in the pot with marginal hands. He's put in 2 flop check raises in HU pots. One he took down without showdown, the other he had flopped middle pair and an open ender and shut down River after his large turn barrel was called.

I think the hand is pretty standard up until this point. I can see three betting pre to knock out the blinds and play the pot IP, but against an early open from a tight guy I'm personally flatting here almost always. Seems like we have a pretty clear bet now for value/protection. We have approximately 155k left, what sizing do you choose and why?

The thing is he has every combination of sets two pair combination possible.

Does he?!? I feel like we can discount some combos at least because he didn’t raise flop. The hands we beat are probably like 88 98 and 95.

I was going to say bet like 50k and probably shove on most missed rivers if called. But I also like b/f with a 1/3rd pot sized bet. I wouldn’t put BB on sets or two pairs till I get raised.

I think we can bet 40-45k and get worse hands to call. If called or c/r I think we have the info we need to proceed smartly.

Now I’ll read spoiler.

A9 and 89 are all in V2s range and there are enough combos of those to justify calling given odds.

I think putting A9 in Villain's range is a little bit optimistic, unless my small stab induced something.

In the end I tanked and folded fwiw. Thanks for the replies

just curious, are you bet/folding anything but a set ott then? seems to be rly tough for you to get to the turn like that with 2pair.

I guess?!? I mean I have JJ here and QQ sometimes too. Im not even convinced QQ is a better calling hand than 1010, but they probably play about the same against the shoving range.


I don't even know if I'll have all the sets here. I have 77 and 99 for sure, and OTB I probably have 66 and 44 as well but its borderline. I'm at a stack depth where I do stop set mining in certain spots.

While I don't think my small bet necessarily got exploited in this spot, although I never saw the V's hand, could a good aggro reg exploit this enough to make the turn a puke check back? The openers range really shouldn't have any overpairs that check turn but I do see people lol "pot control" JJ and QQ here some.

Why would he raise the flop? Most donkeys slew play.
