Hey guys
At parx playing the 300 big stax event. Blinds are 1500/3000 with 400 ante.
We are in middle position with ATd sitting with 120000. Player, old man with same size stack, opens for 7000. Player has same stack and recently lost huge all in a few hands prior. Relatively tight but I suspected he was on tilt and just hoping to recover some chips before the end of day 1.
We flat the 7000. Button, small, and big call as well.
Board comes AJ9 2 hearts.
Old man raises to 15000.
I flat the 15000
Everyone else folds.
Turn is 7c
Old man bets 40k.
We flat
River is Qc
Old man ships all in

What do we do?
Thought process at the time. Because of suspected tilt, I ruled out most of his big aces. He would have raised larger. All of his flush draws ended up missing so realistically it didn't seem likely that he had a hand for value. The plan was to check call most bets and to be honest the pot was ballooned to an absurd amount making it more likely that I would call.

Comments and critiques are appreciated.

I am under the impression that the only place I can fold is on the turn but the amount of hands that have me there are very limited and unlikely to be in his range.

What position is old man? OMCs don't tend to play weak aces in EP (which by the way is generally sound), and if they do they often limp.

Regardless, all you beat is a bluff, so this is purely read dependent. I'm fine peeling flop given price, because you could improve to draws, but after he bets turn the decision at that point is purely with your read of his tilt.

Fold pre, flop, turn, and river. Pre is closest to me.

It is important to know the old man's position. The closer to UTG he is the more likely he has a big hand.

Old man's pre-flop raise size tells me he is good. He trusts his post flop skills live. Also assuming he is good, he would never raise more with a big ace. His bet sizing would be the same no matter what he had. But if he does alter his bet sizes then I would be suspicious that he has a monster and is inducing.

Given that you think he is tilting and you call pre-flop, the flop call is standard for me.

On the turn he is betting roughly 40% of your stack. Small pairs should give up. If he has KQ so be it. Unlikely he has an A with a kicker you beat. I would fold here. But if you call, you are pot committed. You pretty much have to call the river. Unless a heart comes and you buy that he has a flush.

So this is about reads. If you are right that he is tilting you win. I don't see how you call the turn and fold the river.

Old man opens, 5 people calls. Old man cbet a AJ2 flop, bombs a blank turn and ships the river, whats your doubt?

Well he did say he thought the guy was on tilt. Clearly you have to be really confident on your read that this is total air.

I don't think I'm ever going much past the turn against a tight old guy who led from EP and then led out two streets onto that board without at least AQ and maybe not even then. To call a river bet I have to have a really, really strong read that the EP was betting with total air or turning something like TT into a bluff. There are way too many random Ax combos (even stuff like A9 or AJ) that have us crushed.
