Relevant info:

Down to 3 tables of 8. Average size chip stack of remaining players is 156,000.

Blinds are 2500/5000/500 ante

Sloppy structure. Blinds are doubling to 5000/10000/1000 in 12 minutes.

Hero has A/K os in the SB and is sitting on 116,500. At this point in the game most players are folding or opening with a raise. UTG (70K short stack) is temporarily paralyzed by indecision. She grabs raising chips and then thinks twice before limping in. UTG +1 and UTG + 2 call, as do the others until the button, who jams all in with 128,000.

Hero has a chance to win 155,000 if he calls.

What is the reasoning behind calling or folding here?

With terrible structure (jump from 5k to 10k blind is huge move), I would call
Here. You are either flipping or dominating opponent. I would take this spot. Not going to see a lot of jams with kk or aa I feel here.

I would rather be the one jamming first in a spot like this but I feel going with ak here is the right thing to do. Dead money in the pot by the lumps and going against a range such as 55+ aj+ kj+, I’m snap calling with ak here.

Hero has over 100 hours of experience against Villain playing $1/$2 from when he lived near the casino in 2012. Hero has never played against him in a tournament. He puts the Villain on A,T or better, including most pocket pairs.

As far as the doubling of the blinds, seems like the casino has designed the structure around the antes and not the players or uniformity in increments.

Blinds went from 300/600 to 500/1000/100. There is a break after the current level in which the T100's will be removed from play.

This is a snap all-in. You are ahead of their range. Plus there is a bit of dead money in the middle.

If you put them on a range of AT - AK and include KQ, then put in all pocket pairs, you are a favorite. If you eliminate the bottom few, say 22 - 66, you are still a favorite.

Another garbage AK thread. The answer is always that if you're crappy enough to question simple preflop spots with AK you should be going all in with it every time and you'll improve.

Isnt the point of this forum to help others improve their game by helping them understand spots they dont understand, instead of whining like a bitter dickhead?

With that being said, call AK all day here bro. Are you concerned with the donk lady who didnt know weather or not she should raise or limp that TT or limp or fold 89ss? Because ive been to donkaments like this and shes prob gonna fold here or your racing, every once in a while shell wake up with AA or KK but oh well. As for the button, your good against his range, he might just be trying to scoop all that dead money in the pot because opponents are just oozing weakness. GL happy grinding.

The pros of shoving:
- We have 23 blinds and it will be 11 blinds in 12 minutes.
- In a tourney that has gone turbo there aren't going to be many premium hands and/or great steal spots to shove
- We are OOP and shoving mitigates that completely

The cons of shoving:
- A lady limped in UTG after bringing out raising chips. Less likely to be AA/KK than if an older white guy did it, but still looks suspicious...
- Likelihood of BTN having a PP is kind of high (probably near 50%). Pretty sure BTN would not do it with AJ...

In these are spots, a ways away from the money, while I am thinking about what to do, my hands just shove my chips in. In the end, when I am shown TT by the BTN or AA by the lady and I get knocked out in 24th place, I just shrug go back to the board to see when the next tourney is and am grateful that I didn't fold and get knocked out 1 to 2 hours later, close to the money.

Thank you for playing, but you missed the key point behind the post.

From Hero's standpoint, UTG's indecision on whether to limp, raise or go all-in likely explains why everyone limped in (until the button.)

Per the O.P., button is not the type of player who would try to steal by moving all-in with a sub-par hand, so the question is should Hero at this stage of the game put himself in a spot where he is potentially flipping for his tournament life?

(Hero has consulted another player who is very familiar with Villain. He ranged him with having A,Q or better.)

------------

Hero made the call, 272K in the pot. Everyone folded. Villain had pocket sixes.

OP what range would you shove over limpers?
Now how does AK stack up against that range?
There’s your answer.
