We are 3 players left. I am the chip leader with 40bb 2nd has 22 bb 3rd has 10bb. I am in a situation to put ICM pressure and get a lot of blinds and antes The pay outs are 1st 33K 2nd 20K 3rd 15K.

I am in the bb with A-5 suited. The button shoves for 10bb, sb folds. I tank and decided to call. Button had AA, I felt a bit unlucky he had top of his range. I checked on ICIMIZER is a profitable call but nearly break even.

I thought it was a good call but thinking long term it might be a bad call because I could get much better spots by shoving from the sb button, a big % of my hands and they will not try to steal my bb most times. I think strategically I made a mistake.

What do you think?

If it is really thin you can fold, but guess what, if you fold too much you are giving BTN +ev spots too.

The ICM aren't really that large, the 2nd to 1st pay jump is more than twice the 3rd to 2nd pay jump.

Live or online?

If live, we should be able to range BTN 10bb shove range fairly accurately at this point.

As a general rule I'm ok with the concept of passing marginal spots to preserve an icm-abuse stack size, wherever it may occur in late stages - bubble, payjumps, final 5 etc.

I'm calling this like a telemarketer calls all day long. Sometimes your going to get a rejection like what happened here. I'm still looking for that close and with A5 it is a great hand to put you in a position to close against his range.

Thank you for your replies.

I agree with oldsilver. In very close spots is better to be conservative. And keep the ICM abuse.

(It was an online tournament)
