Tournament donk here. Assume no ICM considerations, no reads.

So clearly we can just open the push fold charts and see which shoves are profitable. Hands that really want to do this are 22-88/99 imo.

But is it the most profitable option or do we prefer to just play our entire non-folding range as a small open raise?

Does it make sense to shove only these PPs if players aren't going to exploit?
KQo is apparently a Nash shove and I don't think I'm doing that in a million years lol.

How do we adjust with player reads? If it's a donkament and they're just going to call a small open with anything, shoving 22 becomes way better, right?

at 20 bb you should probably be separating your range into hands that have shove incentive and hands that are r/c or r/f

raise ranges should consist of something like small pockets, low suited aces, and mid suited Broadways.

we should adjust our range based on BTN, SB and BB tenancies. namely how often they defend their blinds/btn and if they are reshoving or calling.

Your ranges should change based on players left to act, stack size, BTN and BB tendencies, reads, playstyle of your opponents, etc...
IMO trying to answer your question is a waste of time

Use the charts or think for yourself ( you can use equilab/flopzilla, icmizer/hrc to help you find your answers) we will be here to refute you or agreed with you

I made a deliberate effort to include all necessary info in the thread, unless you want to nitpick using 20bb deep instead of 20bb effective.

I guess I forgot to include that the table is 6 handed which should slightly change some considerations compared to 7, 8 or 9 handed, but it's not too appreciably relevant to the thread question, unless having an extra 1% of your stack size in the pot preflop is reason to go from not having an open shoving range to having one.

KQ is a good hand to have in our open shoving range with 20bbs, even if LJ is a little early, we don't want to only have midpairs to do that. If players are bad we want to open small, if the table is full of high-roller wizzards we want to open shove, with no read I guess we can mix. But imo we want to shove this kind of hand, and have a more polarized open small range with some JJ+ and some JTs/78s and things like that where we don't make a mistake as often when we fold to a 3-bet or give up postflop. When we open small KQ and someone shoves QJs/KJo/77 and we fold it's pretty disastrous, and unless we have pure maniacs behind open/call can't really be better than just open shoving.

Well this change things...

You want to.know if you can shove profitably UTG 6-max ( not LJ... In 6 max you are under the gun, first to act) at 20bb. Because its not the same.
It depends on the rest of the table. Is there a reshoving stack? Are they loose passive? Are they calling stations? Are they aggro monkeys reshoving any Ax? How big is the stack of BTN and BB? How is your image?
The generic answer is to look out push/fold charts ( use the FTT app, its good and you can adjust tightness)

Personally I divide my range in r/f, r/c and shove. Low pockets are good to shove, KQ is r/f, I sometimes shove KJs, r/c top of the range obviously.
Use some software and make your ranges ( or the good old pencil and paper)

The tourney is regular, turbo or hyper? This change the things a lot too

Poker it's not a game of absolute answers, sometimes you have to think for yourself
If not, use the charts

No, I’d jam 22-66 in the CO/HJ potentially
