I wasn't advocating for playing a hand this weak out of the small blind. I would fold this almost every time. I would only play here if a little voice told me to call (which they do sometimes,) and even then I might fold because I've learned that the little voice is wrong more than it is right.

Really, I just disagree with calling the flat an "awful" play, especially as compared to going all-in pre flop with a weak hand against unknown villains, which I think was ICM suicide. IMO if you think the BB will let it go by, it isn't the worst play ever to occasionally call a small raise out of the blind with a hand like this, even when you are as short as 17BBs.

Maybe it's because I play a fair number of turbos, but I think you have a lot more flexibility with a stack that size than seems to be the consensus here.
