Mixed games in NYC? Mixed games in NYC?

08-22-2011 , 12:17 PM
Hey,
I'm looking for a limit mixed game in the NYC area. Preferably somewhere between 5/10 and 15/30.

Thanks

Haven't heard anything, but if there's enough interest maybe we can get together a no rake self-dealt 10/20 mixed game somewhere in NYC. PM me if you're interested.

There's going to be a 15/30 or 20/40 horse on long island starting in September.

What a disaster this sub-forum is. In all seriousness this should just be a free-for-all forum titled "Advertisements For Live Games". Continuing to call this a Home Game Listings forum is just silly.

What's a typical donation?

Aren't "home games" in NYC mostly clubs?

I'm not sure how to answer this other than to point out that a home game isn't a club, it's a home game. I really don't care what bizarre rationalization people use, there's a difference, an illegal raked game isn't a home game because someone calls it a home game.

Please don't misunderstand me. I've spent plenty of time playing in raked club games. Some of the games are enjoyable, profitable, and provide a reasonable service for the rake they're taking. I've made friends at these places, occasionally dealt games and made money that way, and made money playing. If they exist, it's up to each individual person to decide whether to go or not, no one forces anyone else to attend. They're kind of turnoffish to me now, and thus I avoid them, but others feel differently and thats what keeps them going.

I'm simply trying to impart that they shouldn't masquerade as true home games. You have people posting about "donations", or a guy about a year ago posting here from a Queens "home game" who was flat out lying to everyone about raking the game. Or homepokergames.com, which from 2003 til maybe 2008 was a great place for home games, being 95% club games the last couple years.

I've deleted the posts about your game pending an explanation. Calling a time fee/rake a "donation" doesn't make it any less of a rake.

We're doing our best to clean out the club games and get them contained in the Non-Trad thread. You can help by reporting suspicious listings instead of just complaining.

Good job regarding the guy with the donations, and I appreciate the effort. However, I'm not sure why I'd need to report anything, these posts about illegal underground games are viewable by everyone. You have the same ability to see the posts as I do, and it doesn't take some magical level of understanding by me to ascertain that they're illegal games. You can pretty much open the thread and get the same info that I'd be reporting to you.

2outs:

We have discussed this before in private messages, I gave you a detailed explanation and you agreed what I was doing is fair and within the guidelines of homepoker. You even expressed interest in playing. Self dealt games with plastic chips and some cheap fold out table just arent my cup of tea, and Im trying to provide something special for myself and people who truly want a quality poker experience without driving 2.5 hours.

Shmendr1ck:

The game takes place in my home and I provide a pro dealer, fresh copags, drinks, beers, snacks, and food. I cant do this all out of my own pocket, and the donations from the winning players help to cover the costs of providing a honest, safe, well run game. There will NOT be a rake for the $5-10 mixed game, as a rake murders split pot games. If you, or any players want more information about the game, please PM me.

In spite of our green names, mods are humans with lives outside of 2p2. Sometimes it takes time to get through all the threads in my forum, and sometimes I miss things. Sometimes I just don't have the motivation to read every single new post in HGL every day.

That's what every post has a "Report Post" button. You're a part of this community; if you see something that you think violates forum rules, bring it to our attention by reporting it. Don't just wait for somebody else to come along and fix it, then complain when they don't.

I'll be happy to continue this discussion in PM, but I don't want to hijack this thread any further.

If the donations are voluntary and are used exclusively to cover operating costs, then advertise away. Is this the case?

Signs point to no. I suspect it's another typical NYC nit trying to be clever with his words. It's the same excuse they use to justify what they do before the cops come knocking. Good money says he's running his spot out of Queens. There's no 'game' in NYC that uses a dealer that isn't inherently in it to make a profit.

There shouldn't BE a 'typical donation.' Try offering one dollar flat for the night and see how far it gets you.

This thread has gone way off track of what a Home Game Listings thread should be - players and games looking for each other. Discussion belongs in HP, not here, so I'm locking this one.
