wouldnt know. theyre certainly not doing this in houston. this is the type of stuff that happens in cities where democrats are supported over Trump

Harris County did vote for Hillary Clinton by a pretty decent margin.

Avoiding politics as much as possible, but this demonstrates you don't know jack about Texas politics or you would realize that Travis County is not dissimilar from Harris County. That the Governor and other State offices are ALSO in Austin does not mean local elections mirror the office holders at the State level...

Austin restaurants are being subjected to registration requirements, hence the question about the Austin poker houses. And, if so, I am curious whether they are insisting on physical addresses or if they will run with the POB that appears on a license...

all i ever need to show any place in Houston is my players card. no questions asked when ive played since the reopenings. im not asked for my ID, which is just as well since it expired in March, has a louisiana motel address on it, and cannot be renewed now until i am back in louisiana. dont tell me if i went to another city in texas i might need a different ID to play.
05-17-2020 , 05:55 PM
Are you saying some rooms may only allow Texas ID people to play? I'm asking since you said your Louisiana ID is expired.

Also what rooms are running?

How are the games that are 6 handed and rooms with 25% capacity?

I am from MA and was thinking of making a trip down to play.

well an ID is needed for most things. in a casino u need one to sign up for a players card. and to rent a hotel room. used to be needed to fly, but now the TSA is accepting expired ones. id be afraid to travel for fear id run into problems getting a hotel or using my casino offers on an expired ID. im sure a MA id would be fine but im not as sure if an expired ID would work. but in houston clubs have accepted it to give me a new membership. not sure if this would work at all clubs though. why doesnt anyone download poker atlas like they do bravo live? it works the exact same way and will show u a ton of open poker rooms. texas is NOT 6 handed, its 7 handed and might go to 9 handed soon, but id prefer it not because i worry the cities will close the rooms if they do, but sad to say, as is often in my life my viewpoint is in the minority opinion.

games are exceptionally good. most would say im a horrible nit and yet ive won over $1500 this week since the reopenings. what makes them good is so many buyin for $500-1000 when most cities the max buyin in a casino is $300 in $1-3 NL. and its 50% capacity starting tomorrow, and its 25% now. id highly advise u make the trip.

its so busy here new rooms are opening and placing ads for dealers needed on facebook.

Thanks, yes I have Massachusetts license, no issues(not expired like yours). I wanted to check Texas Rooms out pre-covid anyways.

I already marked where major rooms are. I use poker atlas and bravo to locate. Sure there are other rooms that are not on either though services then have tables but generally act they're probably on the smaller side. I would have already heard about them. So far for the Texas area I have Houston area to include Spring and Katy, San Antonio area and Austin area.

I'm well aware that each Room has their own fees and memberships and all that good stuff I am just looking at my options.I appreciate all responses and any thing that can go towards helping anyone even besides me make a better decision to play live poker again would be great. I did think it was 7 handed for Texas card rooms but I wasn't 100% sure so that's why I said 6 handed.

for rooms NOT on bravo, theres empire (opening soon) the hideaway up by dallas, poker warehouse (not open yet) and kings and cards (which i highly recommend that opens may 19 tues with a $200 drawing for anyone there at 10am) and the river in spring. and none of the 3 rooms in el paso use poker atlas, but they still exist. the new room opening up in galveston looking for dealers doesnt use poker atlas either.

some use tempus - spades club (soon will open) - paramount (not sure if they will reopen)-hanger(not sure if open or will reopen)

poker warehouse never shut down during all the closures
mint supposed to open soon
river club - does not use any service
I believe freerolls is playing out of a hotel in katy

This is great information and much what I was seeking and might other be seeking as well.

I dont understand why rooms would not want to use poker atlas (seems most of Texas or smaller rooms would use) vs Bravo. I understand each must cost some type of fee for the place but ti gets the name other and shows what is or isn't playing, provide that keep it updated. Let the players decide where they want to play but give them the choice by providing them with updated information on what is running and where located.

I am a person from outside this area, but I wanted to come for a long time, well over 1 year so this isn't some knee jerk idea.

Thanks for keep the information flowing especially for rooms that don't participate in poker atlas or Bravo (only 2 I know of).

An alternative idea is do what they do in London and use Twitter feed to say what games are running. It's free!

also if it factors into anyones decision where to play, no button straddle at prime. button straddle at kings and 52 social. small blind acts first instead of UTG
05-18-2020 , 02:45 AM
bravo is not available to the houston market (casinos only) and atlas took advantage of that charging the houston market ungodly set up charges - often 25k and $100/ table fee per month
05-18-2020 , 02:51 AM
No wonder rooms are choosing not to use the poker atlas service then.

I would think it would be a no brainer to use Twitter or FB to tell followers what is running for the rooms not using any service, it is free.

UK, mainly London they update what is running, and how many games. I think it is fairly useful.

There is also a site that pulls in all of the rooms that post and puts into a digest list so you don't have to filter through Twitter. Also free...im not trying to promote anything. I'm just sayibg free, why the heck not keep people in the loop.

Don't have to pay for website hosting. I see some rooms have sites and others don't. Just use free platforms...

Thanks for info and I am making a list

Clive do you know who is opening Spades? Any ties with other clubs? Reputable?

I saw on fb, free to compete Texas, cited that Mint poker in Houston is opening back up Friday at 10am. 7 max poker to start.

They have a chip sanitizing machine, looks pretty ingenious.

first it was friday....then it was monday...now its the 22nd...

one thing consistent - you can never rely on them doing what they say they are gonna do

I BELIEVE i do know who but i have not heard it from anyone's lips

I would say ONE of the principle managers is someone I know and trust

looks outstanding - i am not their target audience

I look for a place - a little dark - some of the lights flicking on and off - some dust on the floor and if you have a green chip in your pocket you might get lucky with the game girl....(and a red bird will buy you a card off the bottom of the deck)
05-19-2020 , 02:47 PM
Ironic considering Mint probably had the distinction of the grossest chips of any room I've ever played at. Seriously people couldn't bet properly because 2-3 chips would stick together with whatever mystery adhesive those chips accumulated.
05-19-2020 , 03:13 PM
anyone know anything about empire, the new place supposed to open near westheimer and gessner soon? so close to the other rooms. i sure wouldnt want to play in any place a guy could for a red bird buy a card off the bottom of the deck. how come no word anywhere about lions if theyre reopening too? which club is clive involved with, and which part of houston is his underground game in?
05-19-2020 , 03:46 PM
i don't host a game anymore (2 years now)
I do host social games (spades / backgammon / chess etc) games at clubs to draw new customers to try out their club

I am a stock trader (almost 5 decades) and rarely play much cash game (last time i played was last november

btw..i am also a professor and have a course in Dry British humour - you may wish to attend in the fall
