Am I missing something - I can't find out what their fees are?

So imma be in Houston next weekend, and have zero interest in supporting Mint. What are my other options, preferably near the airport (Bush, not Hobby)? Sorry, I know that info is likely in here somewhere, but since many of the new room posts don't mention what city they're in, and I don't know Texas well, I could use a hand.

Garrick, the action at Post Oak is fantastic but it is near the Galleria area which is a ways from Bush - www.postoakpoker.com.

There are a couple I've seen advertised nearer the airport but I have not visited so I can't really report on the games there.

Thanks. Looks like that last one isn't open yet, which fits what I saw earlier in the thread. From perusing the links:
- Aces looks like $10/wk for the door and "from $5/hr" for seat. They spread 1/3NL and 2/5NL (as well as 2/4LolLimit)
- Lonestar seems to be a $25 flat fee per day and spread only 1/2NL
- Awesome seems to be $10/day for the door and $10/hr for the seat. No idea what they spread, as the only game they are advertising is a donkament tomorrow during the McGregor-Mayweather fight.

If anyone can report on the games at any of those locations, I'd really appreciate it.

I've been all over these games in Houston. I know you seem to have it out for Mint, but honestly it's the best venue by a landslide. I don't know the whole story behind whatever happened with Michael Eakman, but for the price ($8 an hour if you prepay 50 hours), action, hours, security and comfort level, it's simply the best place in the city. Good ramen place next door too.

Post Oak is probably next best, but the $15/hr makes it pretty unappealing unless you're looking for 5/5 or tournaments, or if the location is that much better to you.

Aces only opened last week, I went a couple of times and it was completely empty. That said, it seems like a nice enough place although the dealers are very slow/new. Hopefully it does well.

Lone Star is the one I've actually gone to the most, and its $25/day is obviously miles ahead price-wise of the other places (especially on Saturday, when they open at 4 and close at 2). Unfortunately it's also the worst venue (aside from maybe Aces, but Aces only just opened) in terms of action, comfort, security, and dealer quality. It's basically a repurposed warehouse. There's usually only 1 table going, up to 3 when they open for their tournament, but their tournament structure is incredibly weird with rebuys open when the starting stack is 1.5 big blinds, and the big blind doubles geometrically while the time per level drops, so you're basically playing a normal tournament for an hour until you're basically forced all in. All the while their cash game players are kind of forced to wait for the tournament to end to play, at which point many of them just get frustrated and leave. They're moving up to $9/hour at some point in September, at which point I expect the venue will die- they're nice people, but they compound bad managerial decisionmaking with resistance to player opinions. They could still carve a good niche as a "value" place to play if they go to $4-$5/hr, but right now they're going in charging the same rate as venues that outclass them across the board.

I agree that Mint is the best place to play right now. Always have several tables going with plenty of action.

Didn't pay out multiple winners in his charity tournaments. Some other random crap people brought up, but that's the one that makes me stay away.

That said, I guess I won't be in town after all. The hotel I was going to be in will now be full of emergency workers and the event is canceled.

Yeah, the flooding down there is crazy. Hopefully these poker rooms aren't underwater.

As for Eakman, I find it funny that someone had posted that he can't defraud you given the way these businesses operate but then this recent post just mentioned that he gives you a discount if you prepay. LoL, pretty sure this is the last dude I would prepay anything to.

I mean, prepaying for 50 hours when you're playing 10+ hours a day pays for itself extremely quickly even if you think there's a substantial chance of getting ripped off. If you pay $400 up front vs paying $10/hr:

Place closes tomorrow: You lose $300
Place closes 2 days from now: You lose $200
Place closes 3 days from now: You lose $100
Place closes 4 days from now: You break even.
Place closes 5+ days from now: You make $100.

Then, every 5-day cycle thereafter you add $100 to your loss.

Place closes tomorrow: You lose $200, etc...

It's really a no brainer. Now the annual membership, yeah that's probably not a good deal. To be honest I'd be less concerned with Eackman running off with my dollars and more concerned with the place getting shut down (the much more likely outcome). These places, honestly, are unambiguously illegal and are sheltered by lawmaker apathy/bureaucratic slowness, the same thing that kept the online sites running for 5 years after the UIGEA was passed. Actually, the relevant statute here is even more clear than the UIGEA is. Whereas the UIGEA banned games where the outcome was predominantly determined by chance (which could be rightfully challenged under a mountain of statistical evidence), the statute in Texas bans operating the game for economic gain, which is obviously why these places exist. Most of them were opened through financial investment- how can a place claim to operate under obligation to investors for anything other than economic gain?

The obvious question at this point...any word on which, if any, of the Houston clubs will be operational after these storms? Almost every one of them seems to have been in a location that took substantial water...

Mint is right on a bayou in Clear Lake. I would imagine there are several feet of water in it.

The one and only Sammy Farha was playing at Post Oak Poker Room last night. They had a 5/5 Omaha game going and he was in it until the place closed.

i lost electricity for 5 days...just getting out of the house - im a stock trader so i work from 2 am - 3pm (EU open to US close)

frankly we can't open right now anyway with the midnight curfew - there is no need to come out (players really start playing about 8-9pm if you have to be home by midnight

I don't believe anything till I see it - I just heard that entire area was hit after they released water from the dams upstream

seems like a bigger problem would be that big chunk of BW8 out west still having multiple feet of water in some places. But I also know that Tanner was one of the roads being described as having lots of trouble with the Addicks releases...

Mint seems to have survived according to their FB. They re-opened on Thursday.

Even with labor day weekend and WinStar main event going, Plano had all 11 tables going last night.

I played at Texas Card House north Friday. Had six 1/2 tables going and two 2/5 tables.. I played 2/5 overall a good game.. Lots of money on the table due to the buy=in being uncapped. Average stack probably 3k plus... some had upto 10k at times due to winning. I booked an 800 winning session. The room is very nice and is run very well. If you're in ever in Austin I would recommend playing this venue.

Always run hot like oven at Poker Rooms of Texas in Plano, I strongly recommend this place to anyone looking for a closer game.
