I'll be in central Texas three weeks starting tomorrow.

I typically play 2/5 and 5/T NL as larger games are rare in my area but will play up to 25/50. Also interested in PLO games of any size.

I'll be staying near Killeen planning to travel to some rooms around Austin and maybe Dallas. What are the best rooms to check out for 2/5+? I'd play 1/3 if it were table stakes and action heavy.

Also...anybody know anything about High Society Poker in Killeen? Their website lists 5/5 NL and 5/5 PLO uncapped but I'm guessing those don't run much. I'd also be interested in the 2/5 cap game if it runs regularly.

What about All In Poker Club? Website is kind of scant.

Basically looking for 2/5+ or soft 1/3. Willing to travel to Houston for 5/T+.

Thanks!

On the weekends Prime in Houston gets 5/5 which plays deep.

5/5 PLO plays there every day.

Your best bet for a larger game in Austin is at Texas Card House. You'll see lots of action no matter the game there. While 1/2 is still the majority of the tables most days, 2/3 with $500 max buy in runs most or all days. Also the 5/5 runs most days and that is uncapped, so it plays big. Depending on day/time, you will see PLO and even mixed games.

Looks like TCH-Houston will be around the 45-spring cypress area, where academy sports is.

Anyone here going SOHO south Houston poker club grand opening next week ... 20000 for $20 buy in only I think it’s worth a shot
04-28-2019 , 03:41 PM
im playing as many of SOHO 12 day 1s as i can - even taking my stock trading desk plus plus possibly hiring a trading assistant to monitor it while i play

put aside 150k extra into the micro account so I can illustrate micro trading platform day/swing trading

Robert, don’t forget all the fees/add ons.
04-28-2019 , 05:35 PM
i will say that robert and dex have been very clear on the fees involved - I have been there almost every day and they are doing EVERYTHING very clear to keep it as transparent as possible

They have suffered more issues on poker atlas than I have ever seen anywhere and yet kept things running as smoothly as possible

Just to be very clear I am not involved with the club in any fashion - have no stake or role - just a satisfied customer

I know, fees should always be disclosed. Are on FB but wasn’t in the post above. Many of these tournaments have no fees for rebuys. This one does. $20 + $5(dealer add on) and $20 + $3(dealer add on) + $2(admin fee) for add ons.$5 doesn’t sound like much but 25% of tourney buy in is high in my humble opinion. Same weekend as Prime’s $150k guarantee too but I hope they do well with it. They are offering a great guarantee for that prize pool for that buy in level.

Looks like HB 2669 will at least get a hearing:

Looks like you were right I saw a job posting for them and the address listed is 1411 spring cypress rd. Looks like it is directly across the street from the old Big Dogs room.

from what i understand - rebuy tournaments are really a thing of the past - LV has turned to RE-ENTRY tournaments instead

Now on first blush i did not like this - then it was explained to me why

transparency and preventing fraud - by having everyone re-enter the tournament - the whole problem of not really knowing if all rebuys are accounted for is taken out of the equation - this is great move and i support it

Now i would like to address running micro tournaments

there is a cost of doing business - whether it is a $1 tourney or a $100k tourney - the cost of putting in cards in the air are almost the same (a bit of exaggeration but you get my point)

a business has certain costs and there are standard fees - door fee and dealer fees really dont change much based on buy in - so if you want a $20 buy in tourney - you are going to have to pay that $10 door..you are gonna have to give that dealer $5-10 - sorry but percentages are meaningless

I will say as a club owner - an "olde guard" player advocate and as a businessman - SoHo is being as transparent as possible - the tournament was extremely well run - they ARE listening to the players - their management team has been in the business as long as anyone i know

give them a chance - I have seen over 30 rooms just in houston fail for the RIGHT reasons - location - owners who had no experience and were just in it for the money etc ..but this one is by a team that cares to
a - put on a quality event and
b - be loyal to those that put on the money to see a profit that is reasonable and fair

Apparently Prime Social in Houston has been raided today. No further details at this time.
05-01-2019 , 01:19 PM
I just got a text saying the same thing. Not seeing anything news wise yet.
05-01-2019 , 01:53 PM
Poker Atlas shows they have 3 tables going and the waiting list numbers are changing so perhaps they’re not shut down.

Edit: Now hearing 9 clubs got raided.

*Breaking News Out of Houston**

We're getting reports that Prime Social Poker Club, one of the largest clubs in the state, has been raided by law enforcement. This is obviously very troubling news just 24 hours after Rep. Guillen's HB2669 was heard in a Texas House committee, however, we want to encourage everyone in the community to withhold judgment until more information becomes available.
Remember folks, you are innocent until proven guilty in this country.
If you have confirmed any additional information that we haven't covered already, please message the page or comment below. We'll continue to do our best to keep everyone updated as this situation develops.
**While we're not sure if this has anything to do with the timing, it's at least interesting to note that Prime Social had been advertising a $150,000 GTD No-Limit Hold'em tournament that was scheduled to begin today at 12pm.
**12:57pm - We're now hearing reports that an additional Houston-area club has been raided. Waiting for confirmation.
**1:04pm - According to multiple sources, it appears Post Oak Poker Club was also raided. Stay safe if you plan to play poker in the Houston-area today!
**1:14pm - According to someone who has spoken with both dealers and players at Prime Social, law enforcement took pictures of all the players but did not make any arrests. Everyone was allowed to take their chips home with them to eventually cash them out at a later date.

So 2 clubs raided? Not 9 like mentioned earlier?

Disappointing to hear they hit Post Oak too as with Prime it could have been due to money laundering, sports betting or something else not related to the legality question but PO didn't seem to have those questions so the fact that both were hit on the same day around the same time is not good for the long time viability of these places now. It is interesting they let the players keep the chips "to cash in at a later date" though because if they are closing these places down when would that be?

In before Clive announces his "home game" is starting back up next week

Notice just came across from the Harris County DA's office - 9 owner/operators of Prime Social and Post Oak were charged with money laundering, a first degree felony. Clubs bank accounts have been frozen and face being seized. Result of a 2-year investigation by the DA's office and houston police. Can be seen on Twitter at @HarrisCountyDAO

So it looks like the raid was due to money laundering as opposed to the legality of these places. Interesting that Lion's which is the other one in Houston that opened around the same time wasn't raided (as of yet at least).

Turn out the lights...the party's over.

https://abc13.com/heavy-police-prese...-room/5280339/

"Poker rooms are illegal in the State of Texas," District Attorney Kim Ogg said. "We are changing the paradigm regarding illegal gambling by moving up the criminal chain and pursuing felony money laundering and engaging in organized crime charges against owners and operators. Players are not being targeted."

The people charged and locations raided Wednesday include:

Post Oak Poker Club, 1001 West Loop South, Suite 400
Daniel Jeffery Kebort, owner
William Jack Heuer III, owner
Alan Harris Chodrow, owner
Sergio Diaz Cabrera, owner
Kevin Louis Chodrow, owner

Prime Social Poker Room 7801 Westheimer Rd.
Dean Maddox, owner
Mary Switzer, comptroller
Brent J. Pollack, general manager
Steven Farshid, asst. general manager

Raiding at noon on a Wed is about as ... kind ... as it could be. But this for sure could change my weekend plans.

I don't see anything about it here: https://twitter.com/HarrisCountyDAO tho.

The money laundering angle is interesting--if they are going to go after any club that doesn't *exactly* toe the line, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Mint would close, at least.
