Re: Membership-Based Poker in Texas

given your experience in legal matters michelle - i respect that answer over the alcohol issue and of course myself I ran a club with NO ALCOHOL allowed and the patrons appreciated the lack of problems brought about due to alcohol

I also agree that for the 12.5 cents on the dollar it is hardly worth the trouble and almost laughable to say you get 30 seconds of time

Question - if someone applies for a license - are they not required to post that they have applied for one and if there are objections - people are allowed to make said objections?

Re: Membership-Based Poker in Texas

All the owner and tournament BS aside, Freerolls is a 2 minute drive from my house so I have to check it out this weekend.

Wasn't the original concept being there was no hourly rate (cheap hourly rate?) because they had corporate sponsors and ads built into the table? However now they are charging the same as everyone else and still have ads in the tables? Seems kinda cash-grabby.

FREEROLLS is a Scam by master scammer Trent Daniels and his family. Your gonna hear everything about whats gonna come and whats unique about Freerolls but its just like all the others just this time its only Investors millions and none of his own money but he will line his pockets with cash as he always does. Give it a couple months to see what happens

Re: Membership-Based Poker in Texas

Only 1 table going according to Poker Atlas. The West Houston Poker place typically gets no more than 2 tables going a day. Not sure there are enough Katy based players to support Freerolls. Why would in town players make the drive? Pretty sure this will end up being a fail. He needed to come out of the gate with a lower hourly charge to have a shot.

Re: Membership-Based Poker in Texas

The venue is very nice, and like others have said no BYOB or bar yet. No food besides snacks and I think it was a $2.50 charge for a bottle of water but I'm not 100% sure on that one, they may have been joking.

It had 2 tables around 8:00pm and then merged into one. Drunk ******* showed up around 10:00 and was punting his stack off $600 at a time, betting every hand $20 blind and 'straddling' anywhere from $50 to $250 at a time. Repeatedly told not to vape at the table, cursing at other players and arguing about the no alcohol policy. I guess no one cared because he was very literally throwing chips into other players stacks. Any $1 chips he got he threw at other players or into the pot.

I would have stayed longer but wanted to leave before it got too late, since the complete lack of any form of security is a bit concerning.

That just goes to show you that they donít have the right people in place to run the place. Because regardless of how much money the drunk guy was throwing around, he should have been verbally warned once about his vulgar language and throwing chips. Included in that warning should be the consequences if he does it a second time, which should be to be cashed out and to leave the club. If he chooses to, he can come back another day. If he comes back, does it again, gets warned, disregards the warning, then he should be cashed out and his membership be cancelled and banned for good. Itís that simple.
Why? Because the minute you allow crap like that, then youíre telling current and future players that this type of behavior is acceptable without any recourse.

On another subject, why is Trent at Lions playing tournaments and cash when his club hasnít even been open for week? Shouldnít he be at his own club shaking hands and kissing babies? Or somewhere in Katy trying to get new players into his club? Or was he at Lions trying to recruit players? Which would be dumb because players who live more than 10 miles East of Katy will never go to Scamrolls when thereís 15-20 cash tables going on a daily basis between Prime, Lions, and Post Oak.

Seems to me like he knows nothing about the poker business and just dooped a bunch of investors into wasting their money on Scamrolls. Because how do you expect to pay rent, utilities, security, and staff for a 10,000 sq ft club on 1 or 2 cash tables? I saw their video they posted when they were giving away their Coushatta package and their advertising tablets werenít even on. Unless they have no advertisers and if thatís the case, they are really screwed.............the investors, I mean. Because from what Iím told, the whole concept being sold or was sold to investors was having revenue from advertisers pay share holders and the seat rentals would pay for the overhead. Iím sure the rent for 10,000 sq ft in the prime location is no less than $20,000 a month.

They can survive if they have money in the bank or doop more investors. And if they do have money in the bank, then why havenít they paid their former GM the $20,000 plus that they owe him? Like GtownAce said, it probably wonít last more than a few months. And their former GM, along with the investors, will get screwed and never see a dime. Donít get me wrong, I wish them the very best and hope they succeed for the sake of those people who are owed a bunch of money. Only time will tell.

Their golden ticket was the WPT Event. They could have easily rode that to easy town had they paid their dealers on time and also not have lied to people about their opening day being in September. But now that window of opportunity is long gone and I doubt they can ever recoup. I heard only 1 dealer went back to work for them. The rest said no way Jose. I guess theyíve been lied to one too many times.

Zizek, if your playing at Mint the drive might not be that great for you to get to Houston, but the PLO games at Prime are going great. There are usually 2 5/5 PLO games a day running and 2 to 3 1/3 PLO games. The action in those are great.

Lion's typically has 1 1/3 PLO game going every day.

PLO has kind of dried up at Post Oak but they have lately been getting a 1/2/5 PLO going several days a week.

I think one of the issues at Mint is they get these long lists and then don't start a game(or games). It might be an issue of not having enough dealers but I looked the other day and they had 1 table of 1/3 PLO going and 23 people on the list. They also had a list of 16 people on the 5/5 PLO list. I called them and asked if they were going to start a 5/5 PLO and the girl said that most of the people were on both lists and they might start a new 1/3 PLO and convert the existing game to a 5/5 PLO since most of those players were on that list. I think people get tired of waiting and leave when they don't start games right away.

Re: Membership-Based Poker in Texas

I'm actually 15 minutes closer to Prime/Lions, I just preferred Mint because the hourly/daily was better and the action until recently was consistently better. It is weird how they're reluctant to open extra PLO tables (especially because the dealers love it), but I think another big factor is a lot of the more colorful characters stopped playing there.

Re: Membership-Based Poker in Texas

Thought Iíd share with the thread, finally hit up Houston card room scene after a disappointing trip to Lake Charles where itís clear all the Houston action has left.

Plan was actually to hit up Lions but what a dump from the outside and with no parking. Tried to head behind the place but some dick with a Audi was blocking the way. Said screw it and went to Prime. Place looks solid from the outside, parking also sucked but I lucked out with a spot. Played $1/$3NL, this was a mid afternoon weekday game but much tighter than I was expecting. Thatís fine Iím a nit and racked up a small $100 win after two hours. Iíll be back.

Feel like there needs to be a sticky thread with general info and tips. How rooms charge time rake, parking just general info for noobs like me.

Sorry for the derail, please carry on.

Most times of the day, valet is the only way to go at Lions, the owner runs the restaurant that is in the same parking lot that takes up a lot of the space.

Ok maybe shouldíve gave it shot but drove to Prime and found parking. Howís the action there in the $1/$3 NLH vs. Prime? Also is the time rake any better?

Re: Membership-Based Poker in Texas

Just saw on FB ( a day too late) that Freerolls posted they were going to have a 1/2/5 PLO game with $500 min buy in on Sunday at 5 pm. Does anyone know if that game actually got off? If yes, any details on number of players, how long it went, how the game was, etc? Thanks!

Re: Membership-Based Poker in Texas

I thought it was scheduled to be played - I watch poker atlas all the time and I did not see it listed. At this point I have not seen a PLO game running there and it is not listed as such in their games offered.

As I said - I did not think that it was offered yet but was in the schedule

The PLO game never got off. Theyíre getting 1 table off a day and with minimal action. Those guys are just doomed to fail. They havenít done any marketing, they canít get locals to work for them after they screwed the deals and especially their former GM whoís been in the Houston scene for over 10 years and could have been a great asset to get some Katy, Sugarland, and Houston players there. I heard heís working at Prime and Lions. It must suck seeing Trent and Charles playing there every day when they owe him over $20,000. I still donít know why he doesnít put Scamrolls on blast and try to get paid.

Prime has better action if you prefer cash games. Lions pretty much is a place for tourney players. Their Sunday $15K GTD is the best one because itís a Freezeout. I personally think they donít have great action on cash games because the players are spending too much on rebuys and add-ons for their tournaments, but thatís pretty much anywhere.

Actually you can find Charles and Trent playing every single day at lion's - I heard that someone at that establishment wrote him a check for 100k - no wonder they play there
