Therefore, Papa Johns has received economic benefit from our private poker game.

So, if you aren't ready to go after Papa Johns for this prosecution, I don't see a logic which actually fits for the prosecution of the operator. Its just not rational or reasonable.
And that’s why you’re not a lawyer. Papa Johns is not “engaging in gambling in a private place,” which is also required to be 1) charged with an offense and 2) claim as an affirmative defense.

Oh boy, more legal discussion.
03-30-2018 , 05:50 PM
Seriously, can we stop with the law discussion?

Your other major option is The Lodge up in Round Rock. Decent traffic, and the major advantage is that they run a variety of games rather than just hold 'em. There's a Sunday 5/10 HORSE game and a Thursday 1/2/5 Mitt game.

Thanks for the information. If you don't mind, please enlighten me -- what is a 1/2/5 Mitt game?

ABC 13 is going to air an investigative story about all the fee based poker clubs. Should be Interesting.

Meh. Nothing new. I would expect one of these every 90 days until something explicit happens to clear or incriminate/raid these spots.

I really wish they'd stop giving interviews for this. If they're doing the story anyway, fine, but based on their texts/Facebook promo's it's like POPC went out of their way to promote this. It's very stupid - I don't want to kindle another legal debate, but there are at least a handful of respected legal opinions who believe this model is illegal. Right or wrong, if there's even a small chance they get shut down, why risk it?

Exactly my thoughts. They think the advertising is worth the risk. But if I’m clearing $300k+ a month, I’d probably keep my mouth shut for a while and just reap the benefits.
Companies advertise when they aren’t doing well, not when they are.

Nope. Companies that use that strategy are in a death-spiral. Not going to get in to the risk/law part of the discussion, but basic marketing is that you have to keep momentum.

Lulz. Coca Cola, Budweiser and Apple say hi.

Clearly you guys aren’t in advertising. Membership-Based Poker in Texas but since I am I’ll not regale you with boring stories.

Thank you. That's a great game! Just never heard it called Mitt before.

Heard a rumor tonight that the old Magic Island building--59 between Kirby & Shepherd--was being built out as another room. Anyone know anything?
04-08-2018 , 05:31 PM
Wow, that’s be a huge room. Can’t imagine it being cheap rent. Theres nothing close to downtown so it could be a winner.

Building has been abandoned for years now, so rent/purchase may not be as high as expected. Renovation costs certainly would be, tho.

Anyone got a trip report for Freerolls?

http://freerollspokerclub.com/

Claims this is their opening week. I would imagine as the place hosting the WPT event, they need to make a splash in the market, and certainly the dayfee would be attractive to some.

More than abandoned...didn't it have a fire after one of the hurricanes a decade or so ago? Have to figure it would smell worse than the Astrodome after all that time with no measurable activity...

Tell you what, legal or not... POPC has a hell of a little business humming along over here. I’m in the H for the day on business, finished meetings a little early and showed up here around the time they opened at 1:00. Two tables were already well underway and 90 mins later they’ve got ~5 full tables.

It’s a shame I have to fly back to Dallas in a couple hours.

Poker is alive and well in Houston. Getting paid off like the ftp days online and as I type this AJo just won a 3 way all in for 450 BBs.

Just got back from Freerolls. VIP was a nice rooom and they really improved it. Looks fantastic. Dealers were good and nice tables. They had a $50 tourney and winner got a seat for WPTDS and around $800 with 2nd and 3rd getting paid. They had the final table live streamed on Facebook. Cards had IR chips in them. Fun, something different. Place was ran very well and they were very receptive to ideas and input. This weekend they’re having a $5k freeroll. Recommend.

How was parking? And perhaps more crucial to the discussions...security in the lot?

Big parking lot. Well lit and there is a security guard and a door guy
