Unfortunately the market has spoken
of the 30k goal of the go fund me campaign has resulted in $980 total by 5 people
Mint poker still gets tons of player despite the numerous references to their past and most recently one of keeping $1600 of donations to the JJ WATT Charity cause that informed everyone 3 days prior that they were returning all monies

As many have said - I don't care about the owner's past history - as long as I am making money at the table - I will continue to play.

That my friends is a sad state of affairs - it is a bad reflection on our mentality and moral fortitude to say that we not only condone such behavior but we SUPPORT it with our own money. Where do we draw the line? I can come up with so many amoral or indecent acts that would this be the "line in the sand"?

Shaking my head for I have known so many good people in this business that it borders on shocking.

So are any of these places open in dfw area besides ftn?

Given the support of Adelson-owned rooms in licensed casinos, why would membership-based rooms be any different. Some can make a stand and others never will...

That being said, not sure I would put the status of a GoFundMe as any true measure of a pulse on the issue. Too many of those sorts of things see funds that go to something other than the stated intent.

Having lived in Houston for many years I checked The Cron today and an article about a new card room there. Has anybody been playing at any of the new "legal" card rooms? I am sure Tillman(May he rot in hell lol) and may he rot, is furious about this.

Are there any thoughts about it? I used to play in the underground rooms all the time, and was at The Palms the day it got busted lol.

I’ve played in many in the Dallas area. They’re very much operating in a grey area as a “social club” - my normal spot (til recently) closed down a couple weeks ago indefinitely citing “issues w/ the Plano police dept”. I imagine they’re a cash cow when operational though. There are 3 more in the plano/McKinney/frisco that I’m aware of.

Curious what their issue was with Plano PD. I looked at the numbers on the one in Houston and depending on how busy they are it wouldn't bee too great, not too bad.

Having legal poker was one reason that I moved. Not a huge one but one.

To my knowledge there is only 1 "legal" poker room running in the Metroplex right now and that's in McKinney. That's out of 7 that were either open or about to open.

1. Top Set - McKinney
2. PRoT - Plano (closed)
3. I will see if I can find the message from the guy who invited me here, it’s off Preston south of stonebriar area, south of McDermott on the northbound side of Preston, near some medical suites if memory serves. Identical setup to other places but smaller. Don’t remember name, etc.

Do you have a link to this article?

Edit: Nvm found it, didn't realize it was the one about Mint.

Top Set's hasn't updated their page to announce they are open. Their last announcement was that they were weighing their legal options.

Regardless, if Poker Rooms of Texas isn't able to re-open they will all end up shut down eventually.

looks like mint poker has gone to a 24 hour a day operation now.

You’re right. Mckinney room is FTN, got the two mixed up... maybe because generally when I FTN I’ve also flopped TopSet? Maybe it’s a Freudian thing and it means I wanna ... never mind.

one in the Comical in the past few days was the one on 1960...Aces something or other.

Not sure I would want to be in that DMZ at ANY time of the day with any measurable amount of cash. It is nowhere near as safe as it was ~50 years ago when we had first moved there (I left mid-80's and parents sold the house more than a decade ago and got the hell out of there).

The other with notable coverage in the area has been Post Oak...generally has multiple tables going and I have seen some of the faces I used to see at 333 (do not even know if that one is still functioning as I quit playing when a dealer made a ruling contrary to Rules and certainly not in the best interest of the game).

I've played at Aces when it was a rake place. Not in same location but close. Never had any problems, never felt unsafe. Saul was the guy in charge, good guy. I assume he still involved because of the name. I quit going because it seemed to be the same 12 people every time. that and a couple of the dealers were not good, yelling at one another while dealing. Became not a fun environment.

Considering how many there are that have been discussed in this thread, which ones (or at least what part of the State) were you hoping for an 'update?'
10-14-2017 , 11:03 AM
I would assume he is asking about the ones recently shutdown in Plano.

Best thing to do is check their web/facebook pages. Refer to this post https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/s...&postcount=112

Big Tex Poker is now Big Tex Game Club it looks like. Nothing on their site indicates they have reopened.

Poker Rooms of Texas still appears closed based on their sites as well.

FTN in McKinney seems to be still going strong.

So, it would appear that this is a city issue. Plano does not want them to operate, McKinney at least so far is allowing FTN to operate.

Yes meant DFW/Plano, sorry.

Just was curious. I think McKinney is open for now until the City "catches on" but its really nice so hoping they stay open.

That is a twist Clive. Word on the felt is that VIP Poker Club is opening this weekend the talk is saying this place will be one of the nicest around and there claiming to have a experienced staff. We shall see cause im still going to MINT and its straight underground room. you can use cash chips for anything including tipping now
10-18-2017 , 11:32 AM
Do you know where VIP will be located?

VIP is off 45 in South Houston. Game runners from Underground games Augie and Robert will be running it. I saw today another one just opened called Swinging Door Poker Room in same area 45 near Fuqua and Almeda Genoa. Both of these arent that far away from Mint Poker.

One of the most insulting things happened to me at one of these "legal games"
First off - the owner had no idea who i was....ok..i am not elvis and I am not Madonna but if you are in houston and you don't know who "cLIVESTRADDLE" is - you aint a game runner

So 4 hrs into the game - I am dead even and its a full table and I say..guys I gave back all the profit back to you - time for me to go home

I didnt even make it to the counter to check out (where they shorted me $40 on my buy in) and the game runner declares GAME DOWN....

btw..if you don't get how insulting this is - then you are not a poker player

In leaving - I was told - hey - we are having a game tomorrow - hope you can make it
My reply - in typical English fashion was

Sir, I leave my house about 10 times per year - and I GUARANTEE - this place will NOT BE ON MY LIST OF PLACES TO GO.

At least the last time this happened - the runner had the decency to wait till I was out of the room - while i waited to see everyone leave 10 min later.
