What is the best city in Texas right now for NLH action? I’ve read Houston is pretty dangerous, so I’ll probably have to choose between Dallas and Austin. I know Texas games tend to get very big regardless of limits, so I guess 1/2 or 2/5 will be enough for me. Are there any advantages one has over the other? Will I survive in either without a car?

Between rooms in North Austin and San Antonio, you should see plenty of action.

You will need a car.

If you think you're being followed, (you should always be aware of your surroundings) call 911 or the non- emergency number and tell the dispatcher you think you're being followed and drive to the police station.

Whats the word on the “high stakes cheating scandal in Houston”. Berkey and Joey have both tweeted about discussing it today? Anyone know?

It was at Prime and involved guy switching games from no limit to ROE. Berkey intimated that shufflers were rigged.

They are a bit off on the story. I don’t believe it had anything to do with the shufflers or Prime staff. During the recent big series Prime had, two Russians showed up and were driving those games. They played for about two weeks and won a lot. Several friends of mine lost a lot. Lots of rumors they were cheating somehow. Would be surprised if anyone with Prime was involved but good chance they were marking cards or cheating somehow.

At this point all Joey and Berkey have put out there are 2nd hand rumors. Until they give screen time to some people in the actual know to talk about this stuff it's kind of a pointless discussion.

Berkey is definitely not a fan of the lack of oversight for these Texas card rooms and he (seemingly unintentionally) makes a strong case for the need to shut these card rooms down.

Can't think of the thread right now, but there was a mention of a couple of Players traveling the US and working together .. but I thought it was PLO and Cubans. They would sit in 3/4 and 7/8 and somehow communicate. They were running FL pretty hard.

I struggle with Berkey at times .. he's kind of a kettle/black type of figure to me. "Please buy into my teaching but ignore when I blast off with 35o on a stream." Might he be on the 'best Player without a major title' list of poker? Lots of results going back to 2006 with a few 1st places in there .. just not any 'alphabet soup' titles.

We can speculate that he's mad he didn't get to TX before Polk did. We can speculate that he's mad that all that action has a 'local' outlet and isn't coming to Vegas anymore. I need to find out more about his published stances.

He should be an inspiration to a lot of folks. Started small and worked his way up, sometimes taking 'extra' risk along the way. He's just not a 'personality' that would attract a sponsor, corporate partner or perhaps build 'a brand' around IMO. He is who he is and (IMO) it just doesn't connect with a wide enough 'base' of other people. Not everyone has to be huge to have sustained success. GL

Zizek,

Please, can you provide any additional information on the Robbery.

Was wondering if the Criminals followed your friend or got him in the Parking Lot?

I play at 101 Richmond a good bit - it's just next door basically. I leave pretty late sometimes....

Thanks, gamboolman...

He was robbed street parking near his house (about 15 miles). He didn't notice anyone until they robbed him in the street at gunpoint. He isn't hurt luckily. It's hard to be too careful about this kind of thing; poker players walk around with a lot of cash and there's little security or risk of getting caught in this kind of attack.

Have recently switched from playing in Houston (Legends) to Dallas due to my growing concerns regarding safety (was there during the attempted robbery, guy almost knocked me down running to the front of the room), my car getting broken into (busted window, but thankfully they didn't steal it) drive by shooting, etc.
During my recent play (this past week) at Texas Card House Dallas, a situation happened at the table that was handled perfectly by the floorman in my opinion. Mid to late 30's Indian man draws out in a three-way all-in pot worth approx. $1,900. 2-3 hands later one of the men in the pot that lost asks the dealer to call the floor. He explained that he believes the player went south with chips as he now has $800-900 after winning a big pot only a couple of hands prior. Jae, the floorman calmly asks the player "Did you take chips off the table, because you know that is not allowed? Player shook his head. Jae said "I am giving you another chance in front of everyone, did you take chips off the table?" Player said No, I did not. Jae said thank you and went to the podium and looked at the security footage. 4-5 minutes later he comes back with two racks and says "Sir, you are banned for a minimum of two days, and possibly longer. You not only broke the rules, but you lied to me and everyone else at the table. We do not tolerate this kind of behavior.".
Having seen this countless times over the years at Casinos and Poker Rooms throughout the USA, this is the first time I have seen someone actually face consequences for what I feel is one of the most common forms of cheating. I commend Jae for his respectful demeanor, professionalism, and decisive action.
In closing, I will say that overall I feel that Texas Card House Dallas is a very well run Poker Room. My only complaints are the rake ($13 an hour time charge with no bulk rate discount) and no food options (although you can have food delivered). As an PLO player, I will say I prefer the games in Houston, but overall I give TCH Dallas a 9/10 and will certainly be returning to TCH Dallas on a regular basis going forward.

TCH has a virtual monopoly on the Dallas market and doesn't have enough tables to truly handle the demand so there is really no incentive for them to offer bulk discounts, although they still do from time to time (that would be a monthly promotion).
