Hi - going to be in Austin on business for one night next week. In monitoring the Lodge and TCH games I’ve been surprised at a general lack of PLO options, for some reason I had it in my head PLO was bigger in Tx.

Would appreciate some color on the min / max buyins for the lower limit NL and PLO games there if anyone could help. Can’t seem to locate that info on either of their websites. Thanks.

The info for The Lodge is on poker atlas. PLO is big in Houston. No clue about Austin.

They aren't reopening in Houston. They were talking about opening in Dallas but as reported in an above post are getting resistance. They have announced a $2M tournament series for September but time will tell if they are able to open and actually have it.

PLO is not big in Austin. The Lodge has a 1/2/5 PLO game on Friday's at 7:00. You can sign up on Poker Atlas. They also have a 1/2/5 Big O game at 8:00 every Saturday. Shuffle has a 1/2/5 Big O game at 1:00 on Mondays and Thursdays at 1:00 and Saturday at 12:00. I haven't gone to Austin since pre COVID but when I did a few times I could usually find a Big O game every day but no PLO. Check Texas Card House as well.

If you come to Houston you can play PLO any time 24/7 at Johnny Chan's 88.

I am certain you remember how aggressive the games in Shreveport tend to be with the standard opening raise in 1-3 $15-$25 and higher if there is a straddle. I tried to be conservative in my estimate as this weekend when I played more than 75% (especially after midnight where most of the games had open seats and were either 6-7 handed) of the hands had a pre-flop raise and the blinds were only chopped a handful of times. The average down (30 min) consisted of 13-14 hands, and like I said, the majority of pots were raised pre-flop. My estimation of $175 may be high, but not by much, I assure you and everyone.

Yea they announce.that after the successful previous tournament they paid big pros and youtubers to come to. Should've jist kept the place they had....oh well.


What's 52 Social doing, any idea about Dallas? I know they sold main 52 Social in Houston.to Johnny Chan's 88 in & still had 52 Social south...

I understand that 52Social (Richmond Ave location) has been bought out by Johnny Chan and his group since I last played there (late April). My question is, are the 52social chips still good, and if so, how long do I have to redeem them before they are discontinued?

Just read on-line that Jeremy Tinsley, a well known tournament and PLO player in the Houston area passed last week at the way too young age of 44 of Covid-19. I played with him periodically dating back more than twenty years starting in Tunica. Saw him at 52Social three or four months ago but didn't play at the same table as him. While I didn't know him off the tables, he seemed to be a fun loving guy, who definitely liked action. According to the obituary, he leaves behind a wife, two sons, and many other family members and friends.

I had a blast playing PLO in Johnny Chan's 88 Social (formerly 52 Social). They haven't quite got the A/C under control though. I'm sure it is fine for most people, but for any big beefy people, you might find yourself sweating!

I hadn't seen any of the Texas card rooms since things opened up in 2017, so I was blown away by how huge and open it all was, security guards inside and outside, tons of small stakes PLO and NLHE tables running, and some higher stakes games every day in the afternoon / evening for the past 10 days when I looked on Poker Atlas. Very nice, seemed professional. There were a couple extremely beautiful waitresses, too, which doesn't make much difference but doesn't hurt.

In my short play time (5 hours one day, 2 hours another day), I saw lots of recreational players, and a handful of what I assume are pros/aspiring pros who are actually not that good. They aren't as totally random-bad as recs, but they play too tight and too weak. I also saw a surprising number of people lose 1 buy-in and leave, or double up and cash out. Obviously 7 hours is way too little to make any kind of generalization about the club or the Houston poker scene, but it seemed very lively, full of action, and great games.

I got a seat without waiting both times. I hope it keeps going strong, and maybe I'll start doing more business trips to Houston just so I can stop by for a night of poker while I'm there!

Planning a trip to the Bryan/ College Station area and was curious if any of the rooms are worth going to? Saw a few on google and social media but none are on Poker Atlas so was wondering if anyone had any experience or reviews of any rooms in that area? Looking for a trustworthy safe room to play cash games (1/2 NLHE) on a Friday or Saturday.

Still need something in and around north Fort Worth. Tell you what...I've passed that TDA exam, so I could help run the tournaments. I'm close to semi retiring, so this would be a perfect gig for me.

The Poker House of Dallas should be opening in a couple weeks off Regal Row and 35. The location is quite nice...dare I say nicer than TCH. It should give TCH a run for its money. I counted 25 tables (18 in the main room, 3 in the high stakes room, 4 in another private room).

There’s a podcast called Texas Poker and they live there and talk about a couple rooms in that area.

maybe he lives in Houston or Austin, plays there all the time, and just wants a vacation playing in a new room he hasnt been. another guy above said that to find out about poker in bryan college station, to sort thru 100s of podcasts trying to find the right one mentioning Bryans cash game, but wouldnt post the link. seems a lot of people in this thread dont answer questions but just like to see themselves post something.

It sounds like Champions will still be able to open. It's a great site. LoL @ these crazy moms forcing their kids to protest against poker.

Although, one potential big hiccup is that this location is actually in Collin County (still the city of Dallas). The Collin County DA's statement:

“While my office doesn’t give advisory legal opinions, I have yet to see a so-called 'Poker Room' business plan that didn’t run afoul of the law. My office will of course individually evaluate every case that is presented to us by our police partners, but Texas law is very clear in this area."

The story notes that The Poker House has a special use permit to open a location near 635 and the Tollway (next to Target I assume, good location).

The first attempt at a 'social' card room in Michigan was raided by the Michigan Gaming and State Police for unknown reasons at this time. It'll be interesting to see if the operators voluntarily pursue any attempts at reopening.

With poker still limited (by casino choice) there was interest in other parts of the state to get another one going. The raided room was 'way' up in the Upper Peninsula and is perhaps just a message being sent by the MGCB that you wont be able to skirt them this easily. GL
