does it tilt anyone else the way it tilts me the management of 52 social constantly has the cleaning lady going in and out of the mens bathroom, even while people are using it without warning, and no matter how much u complain they dont care to change it? surely im not the only one who complains. there is a reason u will not find a casino anywhere in the country doing this. elsewhere they wait til its empty for her to come in

You think Mint and Spades will be toast?

2nd location. 3rd will be opening in Dallas as well.

I dont believe mint will be very affected - that already happened with spades

It will probably be march before it opens if not longer given how long permits take in this area - i am just guessing

By then spades should have peaked in attendance - it has taken as much business as it could from mint and left the other clubs in the region devastated

Will 52 use the same tactics it used in its current location? There are not a lot of high rollers in the SE compared to what it is attracting downtown - they advertise 20 tables and I can not begin to see them hitting more than 4 on a regular day and possibly topping out at 10 on the weekends.

The SE is more lower stakes and they love their tournaments - but the tournament players and the cash players are totally different groups with little overlap.

Once the casinos open - i predict a ton of places will close up shop unless they can make it on 1 table a few hours per day

Does anyone have an update on when 52 social will open in Dallas?

Does anyone else think the owners of Prime are complete idiots?

They have this great venue and due to mismanagement have lost 99% of their former customers.

1. They continue to charge $16 an hour while the competition charges $12($10 if you buy $100 in time).

2. They continue to be asses to players (see their reviews on Poker Atlas).

3. Have done literally nothing to get their former players back. It's unbelievable to me. The competition offers different promotions such as free time at certain hours, bad beat jackpot, etc. and yet they continue to do nothing. If I owned the place I'd be trying to call former players to see what I needed to do to get them back.

Once 52 Social Opens down south all the poker rooms down there are done. Mint is already struggling to keep a game going and SOHO Is just a dump now to many gimmicks there and the management is to worried about getting drunk next door at the bar. SPADES has a good thing going now but just the name 52 Social will create a little buzz down south.

They really punted. Before 52 Social they had all the action, but they really didn't know how to handle the volume they had in terms of running games, parking, when to schedule tournaments, everything. And on top of that, they never had an attitude of trying to create a positive customer interactions. It's pretty clear that they don't actually know what they're doing in terms of running a lasting business.

ONE MILLION DOLLARS IN GUARANTEES at Prime

That should stir things up

Frankly - I find the fact all these large tournaments running right now with vaccines just hitting the market a bit of a risk of the community at large - In a few months we will know if we are winning the war against covid but putting together hundreds of people as the spread AND death rate increasing day after day - is not a wise decision
01-13-2021 , 09:41 PM
the only way prime could get business at all is to offer a deal like $40 for the entire day.. no one will pay 16 an hour if so many lower options with more tables elsewhere.

Uhhh, haven't a ton of people been playing poker for months? Didn't a lot of people just go celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas with people they aren't normally around much? Maybe I'm missing something here.
01-13-2021 , 10:31 PM
and arent the rates of infection going up every single day?

Vaccines are going to be coming out in the millions shortly..would a month or so be a better decision than bring in people from other states

we are taking care of a Pomeranian for a lady in Australia who had to quarantine - i believe it was 3-4 weeks and the dog has to have a rabies test - almost nobody does that anymore - cost $300 to allow it to enter the country

we are not taking enough precautions and this is why we have the highest rate in the world
01-13-2021 , 10:39 PM
hey its a personal choice - i know of 16 people that have died and easily a couple hundred that required some sort of hospitalization - i have played ONE game in the last 1 1/4 yrs and constantly see reps with no mask on in most of the rooms

my risk level is my own concern and i am sure that many in the 50+ yr old category are not playing due to risks

Yeah, maybe you should have made this post 6 months ago. Poker has been going strong in Texas from what I've seen. In fact, most everything is open here in Dallas, not just poker.
01-13-2021 , 10:51 PM
didn't the governor just mandate the 50% rule for bars and restaurants in the past 2 weeks?
01-13-2021 , 11:17 PM
All I know is everything is open around me. Bars were closed a while back but just got re-licensed as restaurants. There are triggers in place such that when hospital capacity reaches certain points, restrictions are put in to place but even then it's still mostly business as usual.

Regardless, the poker room I've been going to has been packed. They've been getting large crowds for their daily tourneys. More players = more profits. In Houston, I suspect the story is a bit different as I assume some of those rooms are just fighting to stay in business.
01-13-2021 , 11:19 PM
yea..when you got one on every street corner,,,for a city of 5 million plus - someone over estimated the number of poker players,,,lol
01-13-2021 , 11:26 PM
Don't let me get in the way of you organizing a boycott on tournaments though. Your point about players coming in from outside the area is quite valid.
01-13-2021 , 11:33 PM
i am certainly not advocating a boycott - i am advocating a slight delay till spring - this will generate bigger audience and maybe bigger pools

People not going will not go and are not stupid - they will "vote" in silence and non attendance - it is a massive undertaking to run a tournament with tons of personnel - who also should be vaccinated etc

That being said - those that wish to take the risk - know full well the chances - I wish all the best

MSPT has been holding tournaments in both NV and Iowa with no CV backlash as of yet. Turnout has been heathy in both places.

There will be more and more rooms opening back up in the next 6 weeks. Michigan will have live poker tomorrow. That is quite a feat with our Gov's stances!

There is still a lot of buzz around FL and TX as the 'place to go' for poker with a lot of good feedback as to the appeal of TX in general. FL doesn't need to advertise the draw of sun and fun, but it's nice to hear that TX may actually be a destination as well. GL

guess the governor is going to revoke or "review" that reclassification

I'm planning on going to Houston for the 1100 main event at prime. Anyone play the last series there? Is the nlh cash game action good at the time? Primarily looking at 2/5-5/10 games. I've heard that there is no nlh action in Houston anymore.
01-21-2021 , 09:04 AM
While Fireman Scott would just love if everyone played PLO I don't think he's quite converted them all as of yet. There have been numerous trips from MI to both Austin and Houston for NL play and nobody has come back disappointed.

One guy ended up in a 10/20 game that ended up being 10/20/50 for a span. One hand had a guy all-in for 21K with QQ and got snapped by KK. Now while this particular game only runs 1-2 times a month (at no particular frequency) I can't imagine the room that hosts it is starving for lower stake action. GL

Here are your options:

On Wednesday's 101 in Katy has a 5/5 NL game. You can sign up for the list on Poker Atlas. Starts at 3:00 PM. $500-$3,000 buy in.

Prime has a 5/5/10 NL game on Saturday nights - Starts at 7PM - $1,000 minimum with no max buy in - You can sign up on Poker Atlas.

52 Social has the most action. Saturday night is your best bet for 5/10 and above. All other days they have multiple tables of 1/3 going that get deep stacked. At 52 you might even be able to play with Johnny Chan and/or Sammy Farha

Note Prime and 52 Social are a 5 minute drive from each other. 101 is in Katy and approx 25-30 minutes away from the other two.
