So are they planning on moving to the first floor or not?
It isn't like it is out in the open, so I don't see why the height thing would be an issue. With the blinds pulled, you wouldn't know whether you were on the ground or 150 feet above ground level...

I've always thought a good way to have a classier spot would be to get space in a Class A building (of which there are plenty in the Houston area). This also resolves parking problems since they generally have garages attached to the building.

ACROPHOBIA - fear of heights - sorry i can't get over it - i was up 35 stories in an earthquake and a desk went out the window

once the place moves to a lower floor - I will be a customer

Any additional info you can provide on this? Does it still look like it's going to happen eventually?

Looks like there are 20 or so that they might could get - who knows what the story is with that.
I live a skip away from here and walked in the other day. The restaurant (used to be Ula's) opened within the last few years and tried to compete with a Tex Mex giant across the street (El Tiempo). The restaurant site is the new Mayfield and the manager told me it should be open within a couple of weeks. 11 tables, $12/hr and $10 entry fee at first and monthly options should follow. Full bar and full kitchen...he hopes to attract an older crowd than the typical Wash Ave douchebagery (my words, and I partake occasionally myself, lol).

I probably will not be able to resist becoming a reg, especially if the games are soft. I've played live in Vegas, LA, Nola, and internationally. Haven't tried the local legal gray acceptable poker club yet, mainly because I'm a casino person, but I'll be sure to give updates on this place.

I hope it succeeds as it'll break the monotony of bar/bar/restaurant/CVS/bar/restaurant/car wash/bar of Washington Avenue. Parking will probably suck for non-residents, but the manager said Valet can be paid for by comp dollars or something. I'll need to ask again. Street parking is not terrible for the west side of Washington Ave at night though, since the bar scene starts east of TC Jester. The new nightclub/lounge called Axis/Alibi 100 yards west of Mayfield might have changed that though, but their parking lot is big, but the volume has been so bad I think that lounge will close in a year. Stuff closes and reopens around here all the time.

Hi! I’m visiting Dallas from Europe and I’d love to try some poker here. I found The VIP Poker Club from google (http://thevippokerclub.com/) and sent them some messages. They said there will be games for example tonight. Any experiences?

I know the effective rake (entry fee etc.) is high but I’d like to play just for fun.

Can someone give me rec - or link - on where to play in Austin? I saw some discussion earlier itt, but that was 2017. Texas Card House? Full House Card Room? I saw a yelp review mention $8-9/hour - seems pretty low.

Texas Card House I believe is still the place to play in Austin. Their original location is South of Austin. I believe they opened a 2nd location north of Austin near Round Rock. Live in Houston so don't have any specific reports but their website is www.texascardhouse.com

The south location closed a few months after they opened the north one. The north one is still in Austin on 183.

Unfortunately it looks your friend owes players of FTN's PPPoker App $350k:

Shuffle512 is your best bet for the south side. They usually have 3-5 cash tables going and a 30-40 person tourney each night. Reasonable fees and well run overall.

TCH is definitely the best for the north side.

I'm planning to check out Austin Poker Palace soon which looks pretty good.

Is there usually a waiting list on say Friday night? Five cash tables is not a lot.

They have a lot more running on Friday/Saturday nights, usually every table there is full and from my experience there's not too long of a wait. They tend to start tables if they have 4-5 players.

Houston tidbits:

Mint Poker's action appears to be slowing down. Anyone else notice this? The odd thing is they will have a list 15 people long and not start a game(PLO) for some reason. South Houston Poker Club opened so that could be affecting them a bit. South Houston has 1 1/3 going now and Mint has none(although 11 are on their 1/3 list). Anyone have any reports on South Houston Poker Club?

Post Oak is moving to their new location on Thursday - 4/18. They will open in a temporary spot on the 4th floor until the build out of their permanent location on the first floor is open. They have been offering a special time deal (not sure how long this promotion lasts) - Buy $500 worth of time and get $500 free or buy $300 worth of time and get $200 free. It's a good deal if you plan to play there often.

Prime has announced their big tourney the weekend of May 1-5th, $150K guaranteed prize pool. Buy in is $580. Action continues to be good there and they have been spreading a good 5/5 NL game on the weekends in addition to all their PLO and 1/3 NL action.

Texas Card House Houston is opening in May. The weekend of May11th and 12th they will have special meet up games with popular vloggers Andrew Neeme and Brad Owen coming to Htown. Bill Heuer is running the show there. Hopefully he learned from his experiences at Post Oak where he had all the players and lost a lot of them including this one due to his bad customer service.

Players Poker Club is struggling. They opened up at $15 an hour seat rental but have lowered to $10 to try and drum up business.

I’ve been at Mint pretty regularly, the weekdays are always spotty. Weekends are down a bit but not huge. I think the hourly increase hurt them some. No one was talking about SoHo so I don’t know it’s effect yet.
Finally started going to Prime. Lots of players but service is S-L-O-W. Also, they never have enough white chips so you’re always buying from other players.

Not that I've seen but they are hiring and promoting the meet up game with Neeme and Owen. Owen also mentioned it at the end of his last vlog so it appears to be happening for sure.

So is Houston now the best place to go for a poker trip to Texas?
04-19-2019 , 11:16 PM
For 5 card Congress - San Antonio

For PLO - Houston

For NL - Houston, Austin, San Antonio are all decent

Post Oak has yet to open at the new location. Posted on FB that they had some complications? Players are pissed as the communication has been piss poor. Prime action is off the charts this weekend as all the PO players have gone there. Only issue is lack of enough dealers to open new games. Will be interesting to see if PO can get those players back that have now tried out Prime.

l.

I played the tournament Friday night with 1500 added. It was a freezeout with 33 or 34 runners. Plus they were giving $50 in time to the final table.

I really want the room to make it because it is the most convenient of the current rooms to me.

They have a great location right at the freeway and Fuqua in the old comedy club location. Parking was not an issue. Security inside and one would step out on the breaks with the smokers. It is byob with comp coffee and soft drinks with some snacks. Couple of food options in the center. They had one 1-3 NLH cash game that was running throughout the tournament and they probably had another after the tournament was chopped, but I left. The staff was friendly and competent. The room was well lit, tv was good, tables ok, chairs were good. They are using the time on the card system.

I hope they make it, but i think it is hard to compete with Prime, when you know they always have games and players.

Excellent ambiance great freeze out tournaments so far every single day great staff very friendly .. heard they have grand opening April 29 for the whole week $20000 with just $20 buy in ... still waiting on structure supposedly from a close source you can’t beat this deal ... I can’t wait to be part of this tournament

But in the mean time I will enjoy their freeze out tournament and as well as cash games which are always great ... Friday n Saturday night cash games lasted till 6am which is very good thing considering it was their first week

I give this space 5stars and would recommend everyone to go and play

I play there regularly also. The number of players is definitely down both on the weekdays and weekends. I think most of it is due to the increase in the hourly and the Bad Beat Jackpot scam. There used to be a lot of players who would bypass closer clubs and come to Mint because of the lower fees. Now they play at Prime or Post Oak or Lions. If Soho starts to get some games going, that will also hurt. I will definitely consider going there even though it is a longer drive for me than Mint.
