Not that it matters, but I'll give my two cents as a very casual 1/3 player. I have never played a hand at an underground game and I doubt I ever will.

The membership clubs have been fantastic. I mainly play at Post Oak and Westside. I typically buy in for $300 at a time and have cashed out for $1500, $1100, and multiple $5-600 nights.. with a few busts as well. In March I cashed for a total of $5600 before expenses, so the games are most certainly beatable for a TAG as myself. With the daily $10 fee and an average of 3 or 4 hours per session my typical 'rake' is $50 or less. A drive to Lake Charles costs me that much in gas alone so I'm more than happy to play at the card rooms.

good for you...there is a lid for every pot

anyone that is clearing that much..is a very aggressive player - if you win large - you usually bet large

I have logged a ton of hours at Mint playing 1/3 .... I am way ahead in the game... matter of fact my win % is up with the hourly based clubs.... I still play in several underground games as well and my win rate is less.... Hell many take up to 20-25 bucks a pot... at least 200 or more an hour is coming off the table. At Mint in a full 10 player game only 100 bucks an hour is coming off the table..IMO the fee based club is much better and its not close..

Yeah. But if you are on the south side, Mint gets a lot of love. Some folks have issues with the owner, but that's a personal choice.

Was going to drive up and airbnb so location doesn’t really matter. Thanks gonna try to get a place close to post oak. How is the action in the middle of the week also?

You can track it on pokeratlas. I've never been there when the games aren't good, and I've never had to wait more than 20 mins.

Awesome didn’t know that they were on atlas seems busier than the rooms I frequent in SA and ATX. Thanks for response.

You said $100 comes off the table at Mint per hour? You just not pay much attention cause a lot more than $100 comes off table try 200 some times $300 and that’s not including what players go south with. It’s the most established underground illegal game of all time ask any dealer there how much comes off the table. Mike made how much already and doesn’t bother to show up anymore cause don’t need to. Players move from table to table to go south with chips. No one says anything ever
05-07-2018 , 11:46 PM
gtown are you saying its raked now?

thats the reason i left the first club I established long ago - the owners turned it into a raked game
05-08-2018 , 12:43 AM
No Clive its not raked but no one pays time fees or dealer tips with cash its paid in chips off the table.

Have you ever actually played at Mint? The most frequent tip given to the dealers is $1 or 2$. Probably less than $75 average an hour in tips. Certainly a much better deal than any underground game or casino. The only time players are allowed to go south with chips is when they switch games. In any case, there are always lots of chips on the table and the action is usually very good. They are also open 24 hours a day which works out well for me since I am able to play in the morning or early afternoon.

Looks like they've come to the same conclusion others have that these clubs aren't really private places as they take anyone who comes in the door.

if you do a little more research..they were letting anybody in - thus failing the "private" requirement

Damn Clive did you really just post that poll on facebook haha. Lets do a poll on here i vote for 2 clubs. Steelhouse and Freerolls only based on what i hear. One guy already voted on Lions. Doesnt surprise me dealers and tournament runners are suspect and all underground scammers or misfits. They do have a couple straight up guys though
05-09-2018 , 12:13 AM
Yes...i like to keep things interesting...at last count 23 places that i know of have shut down

to see the poll - go here

It is not meant to be derogatory to a single place - what I hope to accomplish is improvement in the poker scene - if owners know what people are complaining about - the smart ones will take action - and smart ones are the ones we need to give us what we want.

3. Action
4. Swinging Door
5. Lone Star
6. Awesome

HTPG isn't interested in facts OR the law...he just parrots what his SIGH overlords spoonfeed him.

I was speaking on the rake aka hourly fee. Yes players are taking chips off the table and of course they go by tip chips and hold them back until they leave and get money back on them when they leave...

Also I don't give a **** about the legal vs non-legal argument... I am going to keep playing... If they get shutdown... OH well. Lots of games to pick from.

Anyone have any insight on the new place(www.steelhousepoker.com) that is opening this weekend? They are having a $100,000 guaranteed tourney this weekend with $50K guaranteed to first.

What is interesting is I asked a couple of other Htown players if they were planning to play and they weren't aware of it. They bought a billboard off 45 and have been playing radio commercials on 97.5 but they aren't doing anything on local FB social media in the 2 main FB Houston poker groups.

Seems a little flaky too in that they are having a Day 1A(Friday), Day 1B(Saturday) and a day 1C(early Sunday) which is tentative. Buy in is $300 + their fee then they have 1 rebuy and 1 add on. Also have the option of playing multiple flights and surrendering your stack. Not sure I like it. Thoughts?

they have been on FB with this in several places - i don't like the neighborhood - another club opened up in that area and closed after just a few weeks - located right next to a strip joint does not help either

they almost have to have several day 1 openings just to come close making the 100k @ $300 even with the rebuys and add-ons

I'm shocked by how many new clubs just keep opening - I think it is too late for many of them - I saw quickly that without a 500k bankroll start up it is almost useless to compete at this point and the fact that poker just keeps diminishing on the national level (recently report is that casinos are up 90% increase but poker revenues are down 27%)
