would like to run 2-3 tables 1/2 2/5 5/10..
We are thinking of doing background checks on new players, aswell as requiring a reference. Think we will be able to get fish in the game with all of these requirements?
Any thoughts on running a safe game that wont get busted/robbed?
Looking for any feedback that could help us get up and started, i for one would love to not have to drive 5 hours to play some live poker.
Thanks in advance.
Paypal: There are limits to what you can have coming in and how you can have it coming in the last time I checked. If you run as a merchant account, the amounts are lifted, but any credit card transactions incur a fee. There is also the problem of some people not having computers (or paypal accounts). Trust me, there are still those people out there.

As for running a safe game that won't get busted, there are a few simple things:

1) Be selective about who you invite. A lot of games get busted/robbed because of the wrong person getting invited.
2) Make sure your physical secure is good. I have friends who won't play at games in an apartment building because of the difficulties with physical security.
3) Don't get greedy. If you're running a lot of tables and have lots of people coming and going, it's going to raise eyebrows and cause questions to be asked. This has the potential to cause you problems.

Thanks! thats some good stuff to think about..
So we should probably use a condo because the cars wont draw as much attention as a house? have you ever heard of someone running one in a hotel room? changes on a weekly basis?
Maybe pay someone at the hotel to help us get the poker tables and everything setup...
It would cut into our expenses but the idea of going to a game in a nice hotel room sounds appealing to me, also doesnt seem likely that anyone would rob a poker game inside the hyatt or whatever.
Im sure it would be overkill and its very likely ive seen too many james bond movies, but i think it might be a viable option.
Either way ill keep you updated

Looking at what you're wanting to do, it sounds more like you're wanting to set up an underground game rather than a home game (nothing wrong with that, mind you, but it has different requirements and strictures). One of the better underground games I saw run had the people running it renting an office suite and using two of the office as poker rooms. The primary drawback is one of the rooms was converted into a smoking room, which presents its own issues when you eventually give up the space.

Looks like one more underground game with crazy rake... Which is the last thing atlanta needs there is already 10 of these hiway robbery games going every night of the week.

Are there any shuttles that go out to Harrahs Cherokee that anyone knows about from Atlanta or nearby?

I know of a bus line that charges $40 for round trip to Harrahs Cherokee and they give you $20 cash back when you arrive. It leaves out of several areas in Gwinnett county. I'm sure if you google it it'll show up. Seems like a good deal except that you have to come back when the bus is departing which is usually around 8pm.

Thanks- I guess I should have done that to begin with. I found it and it's kind of a bummer about the short stay: it's only 5-6 hours, but I guess you could always stay 24 hours (and maybe forsake the $20 refund) on the weekend arriving Saturday and leaving Sunday.

A couple buddies and I are looking for a 1/2 NLHE home game in the Columbus, GA area, but are willing to drive into Atlanta for a regular game on the weekends. Anyone with info would be greatly appreciated.

+1... especially considering the high concentration of degenerates you can find in this town.

I'm really hoping that if the paramutual betting law goes through next session that we'll see legalized poker a la the Florida model follow along in short order. The fact that allowing voting on blue laws on a community by community basis this last session means we might actually get to see it in the next five years.

I've gotten my leads on cash games locally through both of those outlets, and it gives people a chance to actually meet you before inviting you into their home.
Agreed. I've played with GPN and As n 8s. I will try IPC this weekend. I just hate driving so far for free poker, paying for food I dont want, and then busting early without the option to load up another game.

Also, I have a 5 year history on 2+2. Many of the SNG grinders know me.
PM me if you want another player. Thanks.

I am in Atlanta and would like to play until I move out of this country for the summer. I'll be back at the end of July.

I'm in East Cobb and would love to find a game. I prefer NLHE, but will play anything. Ring or tourneys are fine. I just really want to play!

@Willummm - I think you have to enable your PMs. It should be somewhere in the user settings. When you do, PM me, I'm interested.

I'm in Gwinnett and was into the whole poker scene around Atlanta a few years ago, when you could find a NLHE 1/2-2/5 casino style game any night of the week. I used to play at JR's off Sugarloaf and 316 but that game is long gone.

If anyone could PM me and let me know of a good 2/5 NLHE or PLO game or higher, it would be appreciated. Free drinks and professional dealer is a must.

As I haven't had much success as of yet finding the right game for me around town, I thought I'd ask the group to share: what are some of the best games you have played at around Atlanta? What about the shadiest?

Obv I'm not asking you to share details that could lead to an underground game getting broken up, but rather, anecdotal experiences of playing games around the city of Atlanta.

EDIT Oh yeah: I guess mentioning how you found this game would be good too.

I am aware of and play or have played in several games around town from 1-2 to 5-10. Good ones currently in Roswell and Alpharetta and Dunwoody/Sandy Springs areas. PM me and we can discuss details and so I can learn what you guys are looking for and about you as well. If I introduce someone new to game(s) i need to have some comfort level about them. Hope that makes sense/doesn't come across douchey.
