I am going to be working in Antwerp for the next six months and I am looking for somewhere to play live poker, but I appear to have hit a brick wall.

No live venues, i'm from antwerp. Most people either go to Holland Casino in Beeda or the belgian casino in Oostende! I do have a regular homegame running, nl20 that gets quite deepstacked sometimes and i also go to a very fishy nl20 that plays like a nl100 game (straddles & 1000bb stacks etc) Always nice to have some fresh blood, so pm me if you're interested.

Viage trip report

The casino is about a ten minute walk from the station, I would recommend getting a cab as its a big of a dodgy area, loads of porn cinemas and sex shops on the way, not somewhere I would want to walk alone at night.

Played the donkament which was a 70 euro rebuy with rebuys costing 50 euros for the first four levels plus an optional addon. You only got 1000 chips, the standard of play a was poor a bit like the 6:30 £20 rebuy at the empire, made the final table and got it in prefolp with JJ v the Villans QQ, first card on the flop was a J, lucky me. The blinds were so high that a deal was done, there was a total of 10750 Euros in the prize pool, I was second in chips and just said that I would take 2500 euros and the rest can be split between the remaining ten players, they all agreed, after I told them i would push in blind every had if they refused to deal. Played the 2-2 afterwards, on this they charge an hourly fee plus a rake, but a very soft game, ended up winning 700 euros in this game, when two donkeys could not lay down AA and 10 10 on a 5 6 7 rainbow board, I flopped the nuts which was nice.

Only issue i had is when i was in a hand and was heads up and shoved all in and the villan folded, I showed one card to the table and mucked the cards, the guy in trap one asked to see the cards and the dealer pulled them from the muck to show his mate who works for another casino. I told him in no uncertain terms that if he pulled a trick like again he would be looking at an extended stay in ICU. The players do collude, so my advice is just say check , raise or fold and nothing else at the table.

All in all a great night and a excellend return on my 130 Euros.

Brussels is a safe city at night, there could be safer cities but getting jumped is not something I would be afraid of unless you show of your cash to random people you come across.

When in Brussels I would recommend a stop by the black door (La Porte Noir?) on the way back to the hotel. They have fun bartenders and if it is slow (which it rarely is) you can chat with them for a while. If your lucky the owner comes by and is on a good mood and you may get a free beer. Not the average **** but a limited edition of some kind.

I've been playing at the Viage for the past week now. They say they have poker, but all the locals play like it's Bingo. The 50+20 rebuy tournament is terrible (fantastic) with an all in every second hand for the first few levels (you only start with 20 BB).

The cash game (2/2) isn't much different. Don't even think of squeezing light preflop as some people will call raises to 26 like it's nothing, and even if you bet UTG 40 with aces, some people still call you down. They take it personally when you do that. Value, value, value. People call down with anything. Worst players I've seen anywhere, ever. It's great.

this is not exactly good advice you are giving out here.. there is nothing safe about brussels and def nothing safe about brussels at night ...

I doubt you are from Brussels or even have spent any significant amount of time there. .. I am from Belgium and know that there are many bad bad areas in Brussels .. there are also many youngsters roaming the streets looking for somebody to rob .. also the police gets attacked and shot at on a regular basis


its even this bad that the police actually are afraid to go to certain neighbourhoods because if they do show there face they know they will get attacked or shot at...

Strange that a city this big only has these automatic play halls.
