CliffsNotes (CN) version in bold.

Long time lurker, first-time poster.

I am looking for micro stakes limit hold'em (holdem, LHE) or no limit hold'em (holdem, NLHE) games in Northern Virginia (NoVA), Suburban Maryland (MD), and Washington, District of Columbia (DC).

[Apologies for the goofy abbreviating, but I wanted to make sure this post gets picked up by the search function for future 2+2ers searching for the same information.]

I have used the search function and I didn't find anything on point. I also know about and have tapped into Meetup, HomePokerGames, and craigslist.

My ideal stakes are anywhere from $.25/$.50 to $1/$3 NLHE, and $.50/$1 to $3/$6 LHE, the smaller the better.

I also would be open to playing in HOSE or similar mixed-game formats if the stakes are low enough.

More specifically, I am looking for games without a rake. I have been to some raked games in the area and, while they're fun, I don't see any reason to pay a rake if there are unraked games out there.

Please PM me with information on unraked games and I'll respond with personal details and references if I'm interested.

Thanks.

I play in a variety of small-stakes home games in the DC area. The best way to find them is to go along to some free "pub poker" tournaments (leagues like NPPL, MPL, StarsNBars, Kings&Queens, etc.), and become known in the local poker circles. Once people get used to seeing you around, and have reason to believe ~ from your behavior ~ that you a reliable, decent guy, you will likely get invitations to home games if you ask around.

You have a PM - we could always use an extra player.

Cardgrrl - do any of the pub leagues have decent prizes? One of my friends go to them, but I haven't taken a look yet.

Anything near arlington / alexandria would be most convenient.

Several of the pub games offer cash prizes for first place. Check out Kings and Queens and NPPL.

I live in the NoVa area and I am interested in playing as well. I play in the Stars and Bars tourneys but free poker is nothing like real poker.

Thanks to all those who responded both on the thread and via PM. It looks like I have a couple new leads for unraked home games in the area.

One of these tournaments is played at a bar only a couple blocks from my house, so I thought this would be a great way of finding people who would want to play in a low-stakes game. As it turns out, most of the people I've met are a little scared of playing for real money, even if it's only $50. Not saying that's a good thing or a bad thing, just an observation.

In response to other posters requesting information re games, please send me your personal email address via PM and we'll start a conversation re boosting attendance at some of the existing unraked home games in the area or even possibly starting our own.

Thanks again to everyone that took time to respond.

Many of the people aren't interested in playing for real money, that's for sure. But enough of them are to keep me busy playing cash and tournaments for money every night of the week, if I want.

My weekly cash game is supposedly $.25-$.50, but it plays a lot more like $1-$2.

Once people get to know you, I think you'll hear more about the money games that are everywhere.

Hey all,

I'll see if I can organize a low-buyin home game for the DC area.
I know there are several regulars that might be interested.

We usually switch it up and play ******ed limit games so we can just have fun, but NL is certainly an option as well.

Most of these guys outclass me bit quite a bit (pooooooooor table selection) - but who cares if it's fun.

I'll let you know

I'm in Southern Maryland (Montgomery County), all the people I used to play with seem to be broke now and I've played like 2 live games the entire summer. Looking for any game in the MD/northern VA/possibly DC area, don't even really care at this point if I'm the worst player there, I just want to play some live poker again. I'll play up to $1/$2 NLHE.

PMs sent. It looks like there's a good amount of interest. I've been able to connect a couple people with games and I've been connected to a couple games, so the thread has been a success so far!

I'm very glad I found this thread. My wife and I recently moved up to the DC area, and we are looking to either start a limit HORSE game (anywhere from $1-2 to $3-6, keeping it social) or find something similar in the area. We are also more than happy to play in other formats at other people's home games, although we don't particularly care for NLHE ring.

Please PM me if you would be interested in playing in such a game, or know of a home game that wouldn't mind some fresh meat.

Thanks!

I live in DC too and would also like to find some poker games to play in. $.25/.50 to $1/2 NLHE. LH and O8 and other mixed games are fine too. I am willing to travel to NOVA to play and can play a regular weekly game if you need players. Please PM me.

Our group had a regular game for a while, but it's mostly dead after several regulars moved out of the area. We're trying to restart about once/month, playing in the $.50/1 to $1/2 range. If you're interested in joining us (regular host has a small email list), PM me & I'll ask him to add you to the distro.

I'm interested in playing if anyone needs another player.

If anyone is crazy, there is a 1/2NL game going on the Dupont Circle chess tables constantly.

Every time I see you post somewhere I get the Eastern Motors jingle stuck in my head, so thanks a whole lot.
