I was going to add this. As it's already been mentioned I'll quote it to stress the importance of this matter.

At my weekly game I've been eliminated after playing hands badly after returning from administrative duties away from my own table. To help this matter I've started alternating the TD role between my two flat mates.

Hey, it looks like I am most likely going to be able to make it. Sorry for the late notice. C-Dog's been telling me to get on here and post for 2 weeks but...

Don't bother PMing me because I won't get it anyways. I'll just get your address from C-Dog.

Also I can bring my 1000 chip set. Nice table by the way.

If I could throw in my opinion on the dedicated dealing issue...

I don't like it.

Not against it for this one game, because who cares, but for a regular game in general. Hell, for this one, I'll be happy to deal for a while.

As I have often been the dedicated dealer, I can tell you for sure it affects my game. People who tell you they can play 100% while dealing well are not putting enough effort into dealing. And if they're not doing that, why are they dedicated dealers in the first place?

To those who claim they can't shuffle or deal: tough titties. From whom do you expect to gain sympathy? All the other people doing the exact same thing you are? That's insane. Dealing is INCREDIBLY EASY. Can you count to ten? Then you can deal. If you play a game on a regular basis and can't figure out a few things from every hand that you don't deal, which is most of them, then you're a friggin' moron. "Aww, I'm sorry that you feel it's unfair we ask you to do the same thing we're doing. Now shut up and deal."

I dedicated dealt my game for a while. Then I insisted rotation. People whined, people sucked at it. But y'know what? They eventually realized how stupid they sounded by whining, and they figured out how to stop doing the common mistakes that lead to bad dealing.
I can deal without it but I generally prefer to deal all hands for my table in the interest of keeping things organized and moving. Anyone who has played with me knows I can do both very well at the same time. However, I just ask the players at my table if anyone has a problem and if someone objects then it can be done player by player.

I am always happy for someone else to be the dedicated dealer.

If you have people who frequently bust out and are borrowing money, suggest they deal for tips for a while. Make a minimum of two orbits, and a maximum of a reasonable short stack, with the stipulation that they must put it back into play.

People get better at dealing in a hurry when it affects their bottom line. And it's nice having someone else deal, as a dedicated dealer is faster and smoother regardless. Over time almost everybody goes broke and decides to deal for a bit. It's a nice smooth way to get your group better at it in general, which helps tremendously during pass-the-deal.

I never really thought of doing it that way. I guess that makes sense for some people.

Like I said though, I'll probably just ask the table on Saturday if they care and if not I'll handle it. I don't particularly like the work involved but it really makes things go much smoother then passing the deck and dealing with players that can't shuffle, deal, or keep the pot clean and right.

I think the concept of "paying" someone who has busted out to deal is genius.

I need to figure out how to get this concept worked into and accepted at my home game.

So this may be a strange question, but...

What are we going to be playing? What games, stakes, and formats? How much cash should I take?

I am expecting a 20 dollar tourney. And then some cash games. I would imagine that the largest game will probably be 1/2 NL, but I am not actually sure. In previous years the largest game was 3/5 NL I believe.

The wife and I are bringing enough to play the tourney, and then some .25/.50 NL/PL mixed game or whatever.

From the players who've been nice enough to PM me back it looks like we'll be starting with one table so I'm thinking NL, blinds of .25/.50. Buy in range from $40 to $80?

If I get a flurry of responses that necissitate a second table at the start I'm open to making that table different - games or limits.

As for how much cash you should "take". I'm hoping none, at least from me.

How much should you bring? Well thats up to you. The closest ATM is about 2 miles away.

Anything else? Other suggestions?

I won't be at those "high" limit games.....lol

I currently have 12 confirmed and 1 maybe. Of the confirmed most say they plan to arrive around 1:00, a couple I don't know their ETA (I think it's around 1'ish) and a couple more hope to show up around 5- 6pm

I have 10-12 unknowns.

I don't mind putting on the tourney but with the current players and arrival times it appears problematic to do an MTT - unless it's like a 2 table shorthanded affair. I'm open to starting with an STT and rolling into cash. We freeze out any late comers once we get into a tourney though - unless everyone's cool with late registration.

Can you start with cash, then do the tourney around 5 or 6 ish when the stragglers roll in?

Ah, I see the problem is differing points of view.

I see it as your bringing money here and taking less home....

p.s. I think I saw a good pop culture quote from some guy named Ben about this someplace.....hmmmm

I think my favorite part of the night was getting bet into when I accidentally tabled too early to show my one-outer quads.

Hell of a fun day. A real pleasure meeting you all, and seeing a few of you again.

Small Fry has a kickass poker den, beaYOOOOOtiful table, and better chips than I've played in some casinos. He lays out a nice well-stocked spread and is an attentive host. Hope we can do it again, and with less of a gap than last time!

And thanks to KurtSF for the ride hope. You learned something new about your car!
