As far as your concern regarding what happens with the funds. Very legitimate concern, there are a couple of things i can tell you to hopefully easy your mind.

1st - We don't hold all the funds, if for example you were to win one of the sats, and win the $2500 prize ($1500 for buyin + $1000 travel), we give the winner the $1000 that night and only hold back the buyin. The reason we hold the buy is because these are equity tournaments, and i don't want to get in a situation where if we were to give the winner the full amount ($2500) and then find out down the road that they spent all of the money and now do not have the funds to go to the WSOP, this situation would end up screwing all the players who have equity in the winner.

2nd - We ran five of these tournaments last year, and i can confirm that all five winners were at the WSOP this past year.

3rd - We have all players sign a contract at the beginning of each tournament, confirming that they understand that this is an equity tournament, and if they should win any money that they will have to share a small percentage with the players that attended the satellite. This contract also protects you, it validates that you were at the tournament.

4th - These tournaments are run through the Orangeville Poker Tour http://www.meetup.com/OrangevillePokerTour/ This is well respected league that has been running for several years without ever an issue.

5th - there are some 2p2 members who can vouch for these tournaments, who have played in them and can verify that there has never been any issues with paying out. (Wetts1012 as an example)

6th - the tournaments are run out of my house, so if all else fails, you know where i live
