remember when you all thought this guy sucked?? now you all play like him!
Those stats are at full ring!!! I highly doubt there was a single winner at FR over any significant # of hands with VPIP over 20 in last 3 years.

Sounded like he was playing 30 vpip in a table full of 17/12s that didn't showdown enough or 3bet nearly enough in a low rake game. It probably wouldn't work at 30/60 today but if you put him in a 5/T game with a bunch of SNE grinding nits (and lowered the rake so all the really marginal hands weren't just immediately unprofitable) then he'd probably crush.

The closeminded thinking in this thread was really astounding... good bump.

He will get crashed in todays 5-10 FR game. What was working for him is that he was getting huge action from 60/40/2 guys and 17/12/1.5 guys weren't showing down enough against him. Well 60/40/2 guys are not with us anymore and SNE nits will just showdown anything they play and wont give him any action without a hand...He has a better chance in 15 or 30 FR games. Some of us are still action junkies at heart.

Re: DERB

3CR,

you actually think it's impossible to win at FR with a VPIP above 20?

Not impossible but very difficult and really depends on the game. Live game is easy but online games with 16-18% table VPIP i think will crash anyone with VPIP over 20 and i don't know a single player who beats those games playing over 20. Pre UIGEA, i was playing 24-26 VPIP on Party 15 and 30 but had to abandon that style when games tightened up however live i still play close to VPIP 30 i guess.

Re: DERB

in my experience most regs these days play about 20% fr (i've played 20.2% filtered 7+ this year)... not uncommon at all to see strong players that are even looser, as i'm probably about average or maybe even slightly tighter than most.

Re: DERB

Yeah, I'm over 22% 7+ handed.

This whole DERB this is so ridiculous. I wonder what people are going to think about LHE in 2015 ....

Re: DERB

ive reread this thread a couple of times the past two or three yrs and its funny to me that most of the ppl that were inflexible in their thinking (derb has to be cheating or a fish!) that were crushing whatever big game they were crushing at the time have completely disappeared.

Some things I find interesting. DERB is getting beat badly by the better players. That means he's torching the weaker players, just like Paluka said. He must be eating alive the weakest and tightest. I don't think he'd do that well against the bad 25 VIP type players who call too much.

I don't get to play with this guy much anymore because my sleep schedule has changed and there are so many more 30 games. I certainly don't this players win rate will continue in the full games and imagine that he will continue somewhere around break even. I'm waiting for my next database update to check. I'll probably start a new thread entitled DERB update as long as people aren't death sick of this topic.

Certainly my eyes have been opened somewhat to the idea of lagging it up at the higher limits. Floater and DERBS might be able to thrive up here and certainly adds some dimension to limit holdem.

It harkons back to a famous Phil Ivey quote about the difference between 30-60, 400-800, and 4k-8k (paraphrasing) where he suggests you don't know what you don't know until you've put serious time in at these limits.

After talking to some successful 300-600 players, I realized they had some blind ideas that I hadn't considered heavily and players were making plays, I thought no one was making. I guess this sort've outside of the box thinking goes up to the highest limits.

And lasty, specifically related to this thread, this DERB sucks and 30 17 cannot be sustained for any reasonable winrate, IMO .

Re: DERB

Having been around to see that DERB, and still playing in LHE games today, I think it only really does show how sick LHE variance can be (DERB did a lot of things right back then which few did, but, he did too many ******ed things to make up for it). There are more than 1 persons in today's games who you could say are the new DERBs, and I'm sure by the end of 2010 they're quite likely to be bust if they continue playing at their current clip. Kinda like how it seems DERB eventually went the way of bustoville as well?

Meh, he was wrong about Derb - he sucked and busted. His main point that you could play laggier was right however. What does an expert 10 handed VPIP looked like these days?
