I haven't played limit in years, what does an expert 10 handed vpip look like these days?

Derb busted? derb did run bad?

It's possible that I read too much into his comments, but did get the feeling that he was implying that it is not enough to think what's a person's hand range in a spot, but that you have to consider broader strategic implications. As an example, saying that "I have zero hands that I fold in this spot, therefore his bluff loses exactly 1 BB" [1] might be true in a strict sense, but it also implies that the player that doesn't fold anything in the said spot has leaks in his overall strategy. The fact that he has such a distribution means that he might miss value on earlier streets or that he loses value against the opponent's value range etc.

[1] Just as an example, don't know if such claim was made in the original discussion.

Looking at the rest of his posts it's quite unlikely he's the real DERB.

srsly. never bet against schneids. biggest nit ever. he'll never bet on anything unless it's a lock or involves the twins.

EDIT: forgot, he did bet me $10 on a women's hockey game where he was a huge dog but didn't know it. refused to go any higher.

What's so stupid is once I started getting mike to make dumb bets he got mad at me about constantly want him to bet on everything. I used to be the fish. Then the fish wizened up. My fav was I got him to bet a hundred at him giving me +140 on a game that's line was -135. Neither of us knew the line when we made the bet, it was just so obvious I was getting the best of it. He used to be an auto lock on bets, but he's lost some of his his dumb nittiness and it's quite pleasant not even from a winning money standpoint.

That said, he did pwn me in the Nora bet for a free 500. I gave up super quickly if I even tried at all, I forget. I think i just forgot about it for a bit then he convinced me I had no shot and my quick research into how many dumb fanboys she had made me feel like he was right.

As far as the rest...all I know is i'm a huge fish at hungry hungry hippos so I know I wont be playing that for money again, at least not with dave p. That guy is a straight hustler at that game.

I almost didn't type up this post cause I don't wanna further 'kill' my action...but meh, I've always had a big mouth. And usually we just bet beers at sporting events these days, not real money. Whenever we do things like pick players for scoring goals or hitting home runs or games like that, he cleans up every time. I'm probably small loser and dave p is huge loser, it's quite ridiculous actually. And if anyone is looking for a gambling game at a baseball game, we have a perfect one (which ok i'll type my next post about)

That said, we do have 1k on whether he plays 1000 hours on FT this year. He's on pace as of right now...but the weather just got good and he's infatuated in some girl so I'm liking my chances.

bicyclekick,

I was just browsing the link above bk posted and found the old angelina post. Don't know if ThisKid$Tough was refrring to this as a movie plot, but it's the only possibility I could find:

Yes, I am Izmet
Posted by: Angelina (angelina@fekali.com)

I guess it is time to set some records straight and maybe I have waited too long to do it, so here it is:

My name is Angelina Fekali and I have no brother. "Izmet Fekali", the frequent poster here and on rgp, does not exist. I made him up. As some of you have caught on to this little ruse and over the months the truth was harder and harder to hide. As I said, it is time to give up and take a stand for myself. There's no need for me to wear men's clothes anymore, I sincerely hope so.

A lot of you will probably not understand, but where I come from, women are not treated with equal respect. Since respect was all too often denied to me simply because of my gender, I decided to make my life easier on poker forums and become a guy. I was eager to learn and I very much wanted to be taken seriously. I tried very hard to become "one of the boys", hiding my true feelings and intentions behind "Izmet's" macho sheep humor.

My fears were not unfounded, it turned out, as I started to play at Paradise under my real name, no way a girl from Slovenia could play good poker, it's a man's game, I am listening to these kind of remarks for a year now. Well guys, you better believe it. Women can and do play good poker. I am sure this fact will hit hard some of you, but you need to face it. Women can play too.

I met David Sklansky In Las Vegas in 1999 when my dear father took a vacation there (looking for a game of 5card potlimit stud). Unbeknownst to my father, I fell in love with David, many of you have no idea how charming this man can be on top of his intelligence. He was relentless in his wooing, I must laugh every time when I think of our first few hours alone when he pulled out a deck of cards and said, "let's play for fun, do you know poker?". I didn't and he offered to teach. Little did I know that I saved about $400 (his standard tutoring hourly rate) that hour, little did I know that he tried very, very hard to lose to me in that headsup game, little did I know that I am one of the few that can brag "I beat Sklansky in poker". Little did I know that life will never be the same.

I was hooked. Both on Sklansky and hold'em. He sensed my enthusiasm and offered to teach me more. To cut a long story short, we had great time and I had to go back home. Six months later, after lots of research, sims and thinking about the game, I was eager to play him again, to prove I was a student, a friend and, most importantly, to prove I was smart enough for him. I was in Vegas again, desperately in love, only to find another woman sitting besides David at the poker table. It broke my heart and it broke our relationship.

That is when I met Abdul Jalib M'hall. I am sorry not to go into detail here, let me just say that I met his wife too, she is a very nice person and I am sorry to bring some pain into her life. Out of respect for her I shall not do our dirty laundry in public.

Needless to say, I befriended Abdul because of his refusal to accept Sklansky as an authority on hold'em, he was a renegade and a free mind, he appealed to me a lot. He provided me with tools to fight Sklansky on his own turf, poker, without being an underdog to Sklansky's strategies. I can't thank Abdul enough for this, if you are reading this, Jabba dear, you will always have a special place in my heart reserved. Thank you.

I don't travel much to Vegas anymore. My life is settled now, men can't hurt me anymore, any frustrations I may have left I take out on unsuspecting $20-40 Paradise players. If you are there and see me 4-bet you on the turn with a shaky hand, it is probably because I imagine I'm playing against David.

I just can't pull him out of my mind, it seems.

I love you all.

Angelina Fekali

Wouldn't be great movie. Student beats former master with some unrealistic love drama (Angelina worshipping Sklansky). . . only a few limit holdem players would probably watch it out of curiosity. . .

believe it was an april fools joke post

Barron,

As stated above, it may have been an April fools joke, but as I put my way-back hat on there was more to the story. I never played on paradise except when I played like 3-6 lhe the first time I played online. There was, and maybe some old-schoolers will remember this, a website (probably created by Izmet) that was Angelina's website. It had like a profile of her, a description of her pro poker life, etc. There were like six pictures of her, and she was sort of hot, but sort of beat in a true to scuppah-life form (think jersey shore in the mid 90's. I'd say a 7.8/10, twoplustwo would prob say a 5 and that her elbows were too pointy). One part of the website I remember, which even at the time I thought was bizarre, was a "list of people she had busted." The whole point was her winning hands which left the other person with $0. They could have reloaded, and probably most didn't, but I remember thinking "why is this a brag?" It was cataloged like an excel spreadsheet of players with a time and date, etc, and there were like 600 players she had busted. In any case, yeah the story is probably fake, I just read bicyclekick's post about what a movie could possibly be about, and that post was the only thing I found relative. In the original OP's post he seemed to imply that one could make a movie about a bunch of internet players trying to unravel how a 32/17 or whatever 10-handed player could crush and the ensuing discovery that he was a genius and smarter than the regs - good hollywood!

what up glen! and thanks for the way-back hat time there. def didn't know all that, though now that you mention it i remember the picture you're talking about and the website for angelina...was it her or derb or both who was from ljubiljana (or whatever that place was called)?

movie analogy there makes sense. good hollywood indeed.

i think angelina did way better short though as people would just play right into her hands and give way too much action. DERB was more of the 30ish/20ish/1.5-2ish guy 10handed iirc.

yea, and i was playing 4 years pre ptr too, but i continued to play and now i have ptr data... lol. i was trying to confirm that derb didnt play anymore, and i wasnt getting the name wrong somhow when searching ptr.

im talking about the whole ljubiljana conspiracy thing. i recall elements of: the inventor of pokerstove running a bot sydicate, an enigmatic family of geniuses playing very strange poker styles, sock-puppet identities, and other such plot lines. most of it was likely fictional, like the angelina fekali post, but was all very weird.
