i agree that there are scenarios where taking lower variance lines are better in live donkaments..but this imo would not be one of them. flatting gives up all the FE I have preflop, and there's t540 in the pot. at the same time, I'll be whiffing most flops and missing out on value even when I do hit. AKs is an excellent hand to 3bet not only for its showdown value but for its non-showdown value, and flatting pre reduces both significantly

i wasn't considering a flat. so the choice is between a 3bet shove or to something like 850. again this is live, and you'd be surprised how many times a raise like this gets a fold.

also, i'm amazed at how many live players regard any Ax hand as the nuts once they hit an A on the flop and will play it down to the end. in this hand, your shove's only going to get a call from pairs and maybe A9+, probably more like AQ+ live. that's a flip. whereas if you 3bet to 850 and get a call you can reevaluate after the flop and still get away comparatively cheaply if necessary but if an A hits you can valuetown those who called with Ax, because they're not going anywhere.

all you guys are better at this poker thing than i am though. i'm just trying to get a handle on online vs live differences.

the reevaluating on the flop is the part that sucks. there'd be a lot of awkward situations postflop given my stack size with a pot of t1880 and t2550 behind on the flop.

fair enough (though it doesn't suck as much as busting out of a live tournament).
