Need your help. I really like making jerky, and sometimes I get bored on the weekends, so I've been toying around with selling beef jerky. I think my jerky is pretty decent, but before I started making pounds of it, I would want some people to try it and give me their opinion. Unfortunately, jerky is kind of expensive to make, so I'd ask for a small $ amount to help me cover shipping and production costs.

So first question, would you pay for some jerky made by a random guy on the internet?

Second, how much would you pay for some random guy's jerky, ~4oz, including shipping in the US?

Cheers,
JL

Id just go ahead and price it similar to what jack links would sell for. May not be worth it but like its a tough question. Jack links taste good but they mass produce it and we have no clue how yours tastes. As a huge beef jerky fan though Id probably be a buyer

I'd try it so long as you didn't use Liquid Smoke or anything nasty like that in it.

I don't use any kind of smokey flavor additive. I don't like the "smoked" taste, although I know plenty of people do.

The meat can be cut any way, I haven't settled on what's best yet.

Also, don't be thrown off by the sesame seeds. Although that combination is my go to right now, ideally you could pick your own sauce / seasoning / marinade.

i might be in to buy just an absolute ****load from you if:
-its made with higher quality beef (preferably something from whole foods or w/e) / higher quality ingredients / fresh stuff etc. i'm all about good/creative/variety of flavors if you enjoy coming up with different things i'd try just about whatever.

maybe you already do it that way idk. also idk what price points are here but if it all seems reasonably priced then yeahhhhhhhh. gogogogo. pm me if you like.

I like the softer type of beef jerky, the stuff that you don't need cow gums and teeth to chew it. Is that yours? If it's high quality and tastes delicious I would say a 3.5- 4 oz package should be around $5. If you're selling it in bigger packages like 16 oz I would say keep the price around $15 and you would sell a ton of it.

Currently I'm using a good quality sirloin cut and trying a lot of different sauces and marinades. I like messing with varieties but what I've found is that it's a lot harder than you'd think to get a combination that works.

Softness isn't too hard to achieve particularly if I cut the slices slightly thicker. Mine varies based on thickness because I have been putting more effort into flavoring than getting equal cuts.

The reason I started this thread is because I was concerned about price. Jerky is not cheap or quick to make. If you look at some of the established online places like eds (link) you'll see they tend to charge $7-8 per 4oz + ~$5 shipping. I am not interested in charging that much, especially during this trial period, but I don't think I can do $5 shipped. I will have to make some more batches and check my yields and do some number crunching -- hopefully this weekend.

I'd probably be interested in trying a pack. I haven't bought any in a while so I can't really tell you how much I'd pay. Just thought I'd mention I was interested. I also am not looking for any "sauce" or "marinade". I prefer the jerky plain, not sure if there's a name for that. I guess original?

Original is typically a black pepper + worcester sauce base. As long as the liquid you put the beef in doesn't have a very high sugar content, the jerky comes out mostly dry and not sticky.

Hey, I buy my jerky from Big John's (link)

They price at :

1.75 oz bag
$3.39 - $3.25

3.5 oz bag
$6.49 - $6.25

1/2 Lb bag
$12.95 - $12.25

1 Lb bag
$24.50 - $22.95

I think that's a pretty good price point +shipping. (free shipping 50$+). Id buy a half pound from you if you ship to Canada.

I would love to be in on this, I am a big Jerky lover and imo you can't beat fresh quality jerky, which is what it looks like you have there. As long as prices are comparable to what s20Merlin has posted there, I would be in for a 1/2 lb. lmk....

+1 I'd be interested in giving it a try as well if you did it at those prices maybe slightly less would be better since that brand is established but...anyways
