Any particular reason it's launch price?

on ebay......

NEW SONY Playstation 3 60 gig with extra controller NEW 5 $577.89
$38.00 5h 26m
NEW SONY Playstation 3 60 gig with extra controller NEW 7 $562.00
$38.00 5h 27m

am I too low? One was a little over $700 with 14 minutes left earlier today. I am not trying to get every possible dollar out of the thing but was wanting to sell it and help out a fellow 2p2er.

If I am too high, please let me know. I looked on Circuit City, Bestbuy etc. and couldnt even find a 60GB (only 20 and 40).

I have been informed:

"the 60gb model was $600 when it first came out in November 2006. In July 2007, the price was dropped to $500. It was later replaced by the 80gb model which was also $500 but later discontinued. Currently there is only a $400 model, which doesn't support PS2 games like the 60gb. $600 is probably pushing it, $500-525 would probably be good."

thanks for the PMs from those that have the correct information. As stated before, I am looking to sell this for a fair price but only if it is attractive to someone on here. Thanks.

50$ below cheapest (online) store price should be a fair price, not that i'm interested though

The 60gb PS3 is no longer in production and is in much higher demand than the 80gb model because it is compatible with more PS2 games.

PS3 backwards compatibility.

If the item is new and he could get more money elsewhere then why should he be selling it at a discount?

Also, if you are not interested in the product why are you trying to drive the price down?

I offer $420 if you would let someone hold it in escrow til I get it.

the marketplace is a wonderful idea in theory but the problem is:

(1) I personally wouldnt ship anyone money unless it was escrowed when buying something like this from a random person on a message board. (so I absolutely agree with your thinking)
(2) I will not ship the PS3 60gb until certified funds are received (would you?)
(3) I am all for escrow but when dealing with a random person there isnt anyone that would be trustworthy for both people.

I am sure the mods do not want to be used for escrow purposes.

oh, and as a side note: thanks for the reply but I respectfully will have to pass on your offer.

I have gotten feedback from many and the concensus is that $525-$550 is fair for everyone involved. I will leave it on here for a few more days and then I will either keep it for the blue ray, put it on ebay or wait until Christmas and sell it then.

PS3 backwards compatibility.
Is there a reason why the 60 GB is more compatible?

The 60GB is the only PS3 you can play your PS2 games on.

It sells in the UK for over £400, as opposed to the 40GB (EU version) the shops stock for just under £270.

originally ps3s had the emotion engine cpu from the ps2 built in so they could play all ps2 games. sony removed the emotion engine from later models to lower production costs so they could lower the price. the 80 gb model (which is still in production afaik) uses software emulation to play ps2 games but emulation is not perfect so some games will not work. the 40 gb model won't play ps2 games at all.

update....sold on ebay for $635 so I guess the original asking price was correct. Again, thanks for everyone's interest and for the opportunity given in this thread.
