Off-topic, but if you are young and not tied down, do as much of this stuff as possible, because when you're old and have a ton responsibilities you'll regret the times you didn't take advantage of opportunities for adventure.

that and de captain covered most of what it's like living in St. Thomas in his Sailing around the world thread.

For the first 3 months I had a roommate (another 2p2'er). We went out a ton, and I met a few girls. Nothing to write home about ending up happening, so I kinda failed in that regard, but there are plenty of girls here if you're persistent. It's probably just like anywhere: if you've got game, you'll be fine.

After he left I've been a bit of a hermit, just beaching it during the day and grinding at night so I haven't gotten out a ton lately. The most success I had was when girls from home or college came and visited.

I did have a volunteer job working on a sailboat for a while, so if that's something you're interested in it's very possible here. The plan was to sail to Italy with him and his crew but it ended up falling through when he went broke and wasn't able to leave while I was still here.

There are several pretty good bars a short dinghy ride away. St. Thomas isn't known for its nightlife but it's not bad at all. And the best bar on the island is about 100 feet away at the end of the dock (just got back from there now actually, watching the fireworks from St. John with some nice neighbors).

I don't know if this boat is or will be available, but if you get the chance, I would snatch it up ASAP. You do have to be the right type of person, though. There's no AC, no hot water, etc. I love it here, just a forewarning to people who are really particular about such things.

I'm still really bummed I didn't jump on this as forcefully as I could have last go-round, and it's not an option for me now. Don't make the same mistake I did, people. You're young, live your lives and have fun. Have adventures! Meet interesting people! In short:

Any chance your boat will be for rent again? We are having a hard time with finding rentals and we are married 30 year olds that don't mind not leaving the slip. We want to buy a boat but also would like to try it out first to make sure it works for us and are mostly interested in day sailing if we were to buy a boat but to spend most of our time in the slip. If yours won't be available for rent again..any suggestions on where to find more people who would rent us a boat to try our new life out would be great! Thanks for your help!
