Hi all,

I’m looking to move to the Toronto area this summer (June 2012). I’ll be playing midstakes MTTs (I'm very active in the MTT-Community subforum) and some plo cash. I’ll be 20 by that time so won’t be attending WSOP. Not sure yet if I’ll only be there for the summer (~3 months) or stay for 6 months, until the end of November. I’m pretty social and like to go out, but my main focus will be making money, grinding hard, and becoming a better player. I’m looking for one or more roommates who are of a similar mindset.

The Greater Toronto Area (Toronto/Mississauga/York etc.) seems to be a pretty expensive place, so I’ve also been looking into the Hamilton area, it’s about ½ hour from Toronto and Niagara Falls. I’ve done some very basic research in looking into apartments/townhouses for rent and I’m not really looking to spend more than like $750 per month on rent. Also would much prefer to get a furnished unit.

I’m planning on bringing my laptop, a monitor, my car, and clothes, we can decide on game consoles/tv and stuff later.

I grew up in this area and I'd suggest trying Guelph/Burlington/Waterloo. Hamilton unless you're up the mountain is pretty scummy.

Yeah I'm pretty open to any of those places. I was recommended Hamilton by someone else on 2p2 but yeah, def open to the whole area.

I've been contemplating a Toronto move for a while. How much $ do you figure you need for a 3 month period to make the move? I would be backed if i go(so poker money not included). So just 3 months worth of rent,food,internet/cable, life money?

Hamilton isn't scummy at all on the Mountain, just stay there lots of apartments near Fennell/Upper Janes cause of the College. Every amenity nearby.

hamilton near mcmaster is nice, i go there, and the nightlife is pretty solid

How are the live games in Toronto? I'm assuming they are pretty good but never played there.

I would strongly suggest checking out sublets/housing operations within major universities. Prices are reasonable, neighborhoods tend to be pretty solid, and especially in the summer they have a lot of openings for short-term rentals.

lol my house has like 3 extra bedrooms and supafast wireless internet and i live on baller lakefront properly with dock/boats etc 1 hour north from toronto.

i wonder what i could charge for US grinders to come live in this free online poker land. or moreso, what would they pay me...ive thought about it before for some extra income especially with summer coming up when its sooooo nice.

IS everyone here either Considering only big city moves? Because Ontario has alot of beautiful towns outside of the city for cheaper than Toronto obviously, and Just to add for anyone thinking about moving here to Ontario.

We have A Casino called Casino Rama, It is More north of Toronto, so if you decided to move to a town outside of Toronto just a heads up, theres a casino about 45 mins North and then Niagara which would be South. BHut Just being able to play on pokerstars alone should be good enough to make the move

But yea, I honestly have been to Falls view/ Casino Niagara once in my life, and rama about 9 times. Live games are **** shows/donk fest. Unfortunate Im a online grinder, but yes Great games.


I would strongly suggest as a resident on Ontario for 24 years of my life, and I am 24. Best Towns to live in outside of Toronto would be from experience obvcourse, Richmondhill, alot of Asians there now, but still nice place just if you dont know anyone be prepared to be ignored alot . Newmarket used to be not too bad but now its basically a passing through town.

Barrie and Wasaga Beach would def have to be at the top of this list. Barrie waterfront and tons of attractions in an expanding city/ aswell as wasaga the waterfront and strip and girls and people just all around lay back and chill, very safe.

I have lived all over Toronto myself, Basically move almost every year since young. And from my Experiences I just found Barrie to be my place I call home.

I lived like a king last year on bluejay way, but my roomies mooved back to Van city, they werent poker players, but energy salesmen lmfao. Be nice to find steady local grinders like me yo!

Also anyone please feel free to add to my post, I know I missed out a couple of smaller casinos like the blue Harran ect. I think its near peterbrough or.... lols I was there once about 3 years back so cant remember, why I left it out, but yea feel free to add your experiences thoughts on cities and casinos in Ontario ect. should help for players whom have never been considering the move.
