Be careful, they get one look at Victoria and your sofas will be filled with our bros from the South. More so, should they settle in Surrey. LOL.

Can get a SIN once you have your VISA, need a job offer to get VISA. shouldnt be hard to pay a business owner to write you a letter of intent to hire.

Or do something volunteer to get a VISA

Really?

I never gave my Social Security # to a single poker site when opening an account (of course, every account I have is over 5 years old, so it's likely rules have changed).

Definitely interested in this if it's still open. Looking to move to Vancouver in June anyway, so this would be cool.

I could be interested in this. I got shafted on my place and have to cover full rent on my own for May.

Lived in Vancouver for 6yrs.

I have a full time job and play sporadically/very casually on Stars and FTP. Rent is easily paid, can introduce you to other players. I also play some liveaments now and then.

29 yrs old, never done drugs, drink socially and love to entertain guest. Pretty good cook too.

Let me know.

Looks like im settling on a place in White Rock...close to border and can commute back to seattle very easily. Probably heading up there in a week to find a place and then move in around June 1st for the summer. What has everyone else been finding for a place to live in vancouver???

UPDATE

The current Dream-Team:

1) --UCLA Deity-- (confirmed)
2) Hodge05 (confirmed)
3) Rusemandingo (80%..going to take a few days before he fully commits)

....we decided to get an apartment > house (seems like more +EV). I have to walk in my graduation (June 10th), so ideally the lease would start on the 11th...though I am OK with the lease starting on the 1st, and just giving ruseman the $$ to set it up on the 1st).

We are looking for one more roommate, please PM ME if you are interested. (even PM me again, if I haven't done a good enough job responding to your prior PM's/you are still interested)

I urge you to reconsider :P or at least research.
This is extremely inaccurate.

Or do you know a lot of North American cities with populations around a half million with less than 2 murders so far this year?

That said, I'm assuming that young guys with cash to spend and partying to do might want to live a little closer to the action, near downtown Vancouver.

As someone who has lived in Greater Vancouver for over 40 years, most of that in Surrey, I can assure you that it's full of generalizations and exaggeration, and sounds like something you'd hear from someone who's lived in Vancouver and gets out to Surrey once or twice a year. Just for the hell of it, before my last post I looked up some crime stats, and found Surrey and Vancouver usually ranked close to one another, and which one led in each stat was pretty much an even split. There are plenty of areas of Surrey that I'd live in waaaaay before some areas of Vancouver in terms of crime concerns, and vice versa of course - no question there are some spots in Surrey I wouldn't ever want to live in. Surrey definitely has some issues with crime, but the stories are much-exaggerated.

That said, Surrey really isn't the first place I'd think of when it comes to young poker grinders who have money to spend on a nice place and might like to go out on the town often. Surrey is somewhere you live if you have a family and want some space, or if you don't want to pay Vancouver prices. The nicest areas of Surrey are mostly the farthest from Vancouver, so it doesn't make for much of a party location IMO.

Sorry for the mini-derail, but hopefully this is of some help to those looking to move here.

I appreciate all native vancouverians (is that a word?) opinion on best locations.

Right now we are looking towards these three places to find an apartment:
1) Kitsilano
2) West End
3) North Vancouver

...if anyone thinks Im overlooking a good prospective location, I appreciate your thoughts (even if your not interested in an apartment)

Current Plan:
1) After 4 people are confirmed, start looking for apartments in Vancouver.
2) I've managed to get in contact w/ some regular 2+2'er from Vancouver for inside info about the best locations/cities, so I can forward those PM's everyone and we can determine the best location (west Vancouver vs richmond vs UCB area vs north Vancouver etc.) Crigslist, seems to be an excellent source for locations to look at.
3) Contact the owner of the apartment and get details from them who to secure location
4) Ideally, we would all meet up on the 10th of June, and go over to the apartment and sign papers finalizing lease...but I am able to ship money to bank account of some1 if it appears that we are being limited by leases all starting on June 1 or something (though, in my experience with leasers, that almost never is the case).
5) Go to bank and set up bank account. I have called two banks in Vancouver, and they said US passport+canadan residence=bank account with them. Though I am of course skeptical till I actually have a bank account set up...but it doesnt seem to be a problem.
6) Get utilites in our names (I know in L.A., the city allows up to 5 people to be on utility bill, so it wont matter if there is more than one of us on statement.
7) Have out phone companies/bank/utilites give us a bill/statement...we need 2 of three of these for pokerstars (according to the SNE thread/NVG/internet poker.
8) ????
9) profit

Still looking for one or two more room mates....

Those sound like good spots.

Only reason I think you'd look at Richmond over any of those would be price, and if that was the case, I think you'd want to add the Metrotown area of Burnaby as well.

I just started playing online on 04/15/11 (yeah, I said it...) so I'm obviously not ready to move out of the country for online poker. However, I live in Washington state and would like to find somewhere I can establish a residential address and install a small PC tower to VPN through. With these two things and an account with RBC, I should be good to go. While I wouldn't be willing to pay much for this type of arrangement, I would contribute something. PM me if you can accommodate.

Was contemplating this, but UCLA just informed me it's not happening. I'm still looking to get a place though starting in June, possibly earlier, for probably 3 months. Looking at Kitsilano and West End too.

I'm in my 20s, graduated 2 years ago, laid back, etc. PM if you're interested.

This is correct. Me and ruseman wont be able to move as fast as June (its going to be more along the lines of a 2-3 month time frame) after all :/.
A lot of good people ITT,...hopefully finding other solid people to live with wont be too hard for you and everyone else.

North Van AINEC.
Sick apartments/houses there, can seabus(small ferry) to downtown that takes like 5 minutes.
Behind downtown its the next best option but if you want cheaper/less busy its perfect especially since DT is so close

Edit: and dont live in surrey, it sucks other than south surrey, which is basically just rich old people
