Me and Rusemandingo are looking for additional roommates for a poker house in Vancouver, Canada starting early June 2011.

About us:
--UCLA Deity—
-I’m 22 years old, graduating from UCLA with a degree in Psychology early June.
-I’m a Supernova on Pokerstars, played 350,000+ hands of small/midstakes PLO8/NLO8 this year and was going for Supernova Elite. I’m switching to HU PLO8 and midstakes PLO.

Rusemandingo
-Also in 20’s, kicks it like an OG on the West coast.
-Solid success in STT/SNG’s on Full tilt and Pokerstars, plays NLHE.
-Pretty well established 2+2'er, look him up for more info.

Both of us enjoy talking over strategy, discussing pokerz theory, and improving our games. We know each other IRL and on 2+2. We definitely fall on the more social side of the spectrum (drinking, partying, etc).

Who are we looking for?
1) You can easily afford to pay 600-1,000 USD a month for rent.
2) You are easy to get along with and don’t have any anger/depression/mental problems.
3) 21+
4) Are interested in poker and have a good winning record (i.e. it will help if your 2+2 account wasn’t created April 2011, and you have 37 trolling posts).
5) You don’t do any drugs. (Adderall and weed are exempt, obviously.)
6) Are ready to move-in June 2011. And are ok with AT LEAST a 3 month commitment.

Post here or PM either of us if you're interested (please include a short bio about yourself). No house or apartment has been chosen yet. Cross posted in Travel.

Hey guys. My moving plans are still a little dependent on getting my funds back, but its starting to look more and more like that should happen sooner than later.

Im 27 yo. Been grinding super turbos for the last year or so. Finally started moving up into the midstakes when all this **** went down. Really looking forward to getting my hands on those eurosites and bonus whore the **** out of all of them. Ill prob play a bunch of live MTTs and cash, but will prob stick to supers online.

Im a little older and prob wont be blacking out 6 nights a week, but I still like to party and prob will never turn down an invite to hit the bars. I love to cook and would be down to cook house meals often if everyone is pitching for food.

Im grinding on Merge now so Im not looking to leave ASAP, but I know UCLA has a ton of equity tied up in SNE and needs to get back to stars like now. So lets get some people that are looking to move in the next couple months and start making some plans.

I'd love to move to Vancouver for a few months but I'm wondering if you guys have thought this all the way through. You can't just up and move to Vancouver and expect to switch your'e country on stars to Canada without getting the proper documentation. Let me know how you guys plan on opening bank accounts and all of that stuff.

Very interested, but also relying on getting funds back to make this affordable. 25 y/o, laid back, been grinding mostly STTs for a living since March '10. Worked as a PA @ ESPN for a year after graduating from USC-- I'm fine with you being from UCLA if me being a Trojan doesn't kill it for you! hahah

Personally I'm leaning towards the $600/month side of things in the interest of being frugal, but either way keep me in the loop as you guys figure out more of this. Subscribing to this thread

I am very interested but not til September, just putting my name in the thread in case I forget about it. If something is open around then please PM me. 6-year STT pro and I meet all other requirements, higher end place would be my preference but probably would take whatever.

I don't take things like this lightly. My plan is more complex than just driving up to the Canadian boarder, hi-fiving the boarder patrol, and expecting stars to auto-allow me to play.

I've been researching visas/banks/utilities as well. As far as I can tell, there shouldnt be an issue obtaining those (though thats not to say, it wont require some effort).

So far the plan is:
1) obtain an apartment/house in canada for 3 month lease (3 months to begin with). We can all meet up in Vancouver the day before we plan to "move in"...that way we can sort out payment to the owner.

2) then, once we have residence, go to a bank and show passports/proof of residence in USA or Canada to obtain bank account

3) Get the utility company to send us an invoice before the end of the billing cycle, that way we can have proof asap. *I guess phone companies would work as well, maybe both...and have a race to see which comes first.

4) Send evidence to Pokerstars

5) Profit

This is my plan as of this second, might be flawed...dont see how (im perfect)..but if there is tell me.

PM me if you are still interested, and we can go from there.

**as of right now, crigslsit seems to have a very good selection of apartments/houses to choose from.

Probably wont work right now if your just interested in September. Might need to replace a roommate or something after three months is up, I'll put you at the top of list (of course I expect months from now, you to forget completely about this thread, lol)

Things dont look like they are turning out well in the US (at least in the short 3-12 month term).

how are you getting a visa? That is the part that people keep overlooking in this whole process. They don't just hand you a visa because you are american.

I am moving to canada as well, vancouver, or victoria. But I can only stay 6 months max without a visa. To get a visa you need to actually do something in the country. Canada isn't a poker country, they are most likely not going to accept that as your profession, regardless of how much money you have in the bank. You will get the passport 6 months pass.

Just letting you know what I have found so far, i hope you have a better plan and better luck with whatever you are doing.

Getting a visa isn't necessary to get into Canada for Americans. This is clearly a short term solution (less than six months) and if anyone wants to stay for longer then they're going to have to figure out a way to get a visa. That part will be a little tricky and may or may not be doable. At the very least anyone following this plan will have 5.5 months or so (giving time to set things up) to grind and make some money.

I plan on getting a grindhouse up in vancouver with some other Seattle Pros we live 1.5 hrs from vancouver... sorta know the area up there...been looking on craiglist but it would be nice to know what you guys are finding as a place to live. We might just go up there for a week and check out different areas to pick a good spot we are in our low 21+ age and wanna get a spot near clubs and bars....we are probably gonna be around Surrey/Richmond area...River Rock Casino is also there if you like to grind live and plan on a 3 month lease and going from there starting in june

guys whatever you do, do not live in Surrey, that place is straight up awful.

its one of the worst areas in Canada, crime, assault, drugs. All i ever hear from people in Van or Whistler is that surrey this surrey that. When people fight all you hear is "Surrey Mother Fkrs*"

I urge you to reconsider :P or at least research.

Currently, the plan is to get a three month lease (since no matter what all Americans can live in Canada for three months w/o visa's). I will most likely apply for a 6 month visa while there. This allows for the possibility of coming back to the USA if stars/tilt come back online in three months. Or just staying in Canada if they do not resurface after three months. For me and others, it's better than just sitting in the USA during that time.

I am Canadian and live in Canada.

Has anyone thought about the fact PS needs a Social Insurance Number (SIN) for opening an account, as does a bank. A Social Security Number (USA version os SIN) works for the bank. Is this information shared with PS to confirm the account? Anyone doing this now with success?

I have friends seeking a way to make this work, thus the interest in the topic and we all really need to figure out a way to make this process work.

Like that old Sicllian saying, "You make the rules, we find the loopholes".
