Most probably seen my previous thread, I ran 50$ up to around 2k in 5 weeks but unfortunately tilt demons got the better of me and I ended up blasting a lot of it away and withdrawing. I need to be perfectly honest with myself and admit my failings, the previous thread was far too robotic and I never really talked about personal stuff or the emotional toll that comes with grinding through the stakes, I let it all harvest inside and on two separate occasions really went on monkey tilt. I want this thread to show accountability for my actions and instead of just posting mundane hh's try to post spots which are rarely talked about and somewhat interesting.

There's 3 weeks left in May. I've left 50$ online to grind 5nlz. I believe if I put in some extra volume by the end of May I'll be back in the same position again if not stronger. My game has developed and improved a tonne after grinding the previous 120k hands or whatever it was. Normally I would quit and say feck it I'm done but I'm not going to quit this time. I have all the time in the world, currently I'm not working, I do have a degree in IT and some other qualifications. I live in Ireland which has no taxes on poker and no regulations so no questions are ever asked about extra income.

My life went a bit off the rails when my dad died, at that time I was working a standard office job hating life. The only reason I was there was to try and make him proud, after he passed it really changed my view on humanity and life in general and impacted me very negatively. I started drinking more, I started frequenting a local casino gambling like a maniac at 1/2 tables. For whatever reason I've never had an actual problem with gambling, I have zero debt and have never bet on a horse or sports game in my life. I've never viewed poker as gambling and have had this self delusion that if I ever need money, poker is always there, but the reality is poker won't be there forever. The games are much tougher than they were even 4 or 5 years ago to the point you have to work extremely hard. Back then you could just show up and win, but that's not the case anymore.

I don't know if anyone follows Jordon Peterson. He talks about us all having inner demons and instead of ignoring them we should experience it and then learn to control it so it never happens again. For whatever reason that really resonates with me - I know had badly I can behave especially when there's alcohol involved. I won't get into what I get up to sometimes since there's people IRL I know who followed my threads in the past but it's not that hard to imagine, just a very sleezy underbelly of society. It's not good for the soul or the mind - I'll wake up those following mornings really hating myself and my behavior.

With all that said, there's 3 weeks left in May. My goal is to play 100k hands between now and then and see what kind of position I'm in at the end of the month. As I said I've left $50 on there to grind my roll back up again and I've just finished my first session of 5nlz which has doubled my BR.

@ $150 - 10nlz
@ $320 - 16nlz
@ $650 - 25nlz
@ $2000 - 50nlz

They'll be no more pussyfooting around from me - I'm going to give this one last shot and at least I'll be able to say I tried my best if it doesn't work out. I'm done with half arsing it. GL to everyone else grinding out there whether it's cash or tournies, it's a tough game but it can be enjoyable and rewarding if you go about it the right way.

Bankroll is $105

Good luck mate!

Yeh I've seen Jordan Peterson mentioned in a few place lately, might be the universe saying to check him out!

I like what you say about the personal stuff and the emotional toil, definitely something that is easy to neglect but takes a massive toll on how we play.

Best of luck mate, will be following!

Cheers mate. Great vid so far. I'm back at 5nl myself after a downswing at 10nl.

Will keep watching. Just had a check of my database and we've played 10 hands together, nothing interesting though! Might see you some more over the next few days.

That would definitely be a goal I'd like to make but for now just need to get back into the mindset of grinding again

Small update, went into the local Casino Friday night and said GL to some of the players in there, I wouldn't really classify anyone in there as a real friend but most of the people in there are nice people who probably like me lack a bit of direction in life. I called one of the female dealers outside who I've gotten to know a little just to say GL to her and apologized if I was ever rude to her or the other dealers while I was in a stupor. Somewhat inappropriate maybe since in a casino all we are, are customers to them but for whatever reason I felt the need to do it.

Poker wise haven't put a tonne of volume in over the weekend but starting tomorrow I'm back on the grind hardcore again, another day or so of grinding 5nl I'll have 20 BI's for 10nl which should be enough as long as I don't run absolutely horrid. I don't feel like the previous challenge was a total waste of time as I'll be prepared better mentally for the run bad and the variance that goes with it. At one point I was something like 40 buyins under ev between 25 and 16nl which I've never really experienced in the past. Here's 5nl zoom so far

Planning on playing 6 hrs tomorrow and everyday for the rest of the month so I'll see where that takes me. darchas, shynepo3, EviizWasteD, LittleCook, _jimbo_, EPTchips, cantor1987, thank you for the nice wishes, GL to everyone grinding out there

Some of your hands in previous thread were a total mind blow for me. I'm playing PartyPoker FF tables and it seems that action is nowhere near as juicy, waaaay nittier. Also doesn't help that I'm very bad

GL!

Edit: How are you up 20BI already, jeezus!

Trust me, it's not. I opened 5nl ZOOM and it sucked, it's terrible, everyone played correct quite solid ABC (I mean, not everyone, but the vast majority) vs me and I could not do anything, then I tilted off a stack and ruined my sesh from a small winner into a small loser.

5nl is not juicy, it's just nuxxx turning water into wine

nuxxx, when you come back can you give your strat on two of my NL5 hands, they tilt me and I felt helpless while playing them

Hands in the followin post for being more organized:

Hand 1:

I just can't seem to open anything from SB in the NL5 zoom. People 3bet me all the time and if they don't, they call me IP and never give up. Should I miss cbet and just give up my 44 face up? But if I do so, 44 is prob not an profitable open and I should tighten my open range to 66+ but that would just not be reasonable for folded-to-small blind at all would it

Turn: ($0.64) 5 (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets $0.31, Hero folds

Total pot: $0.64

Results:
Spoiler:

BB didn't show

Hand 2:

The reason I pfr'd to 15c not to 20c is because good regs observing me would soulread my iso to a perceived range of JJ+ AK, AQs, however if I just PFR, it's my full range 66+, AJ+ ATs+ & some royal connectors to which they can also call middle sets on my cbet instead of strictly setmining, in case they call vs me pre and can also 3bet me wider (due to my weaker perceived range)

of course they didn't do this and I got min value. How would you played AA here differently to get a bit more value?

You should probably be 3xing from the sb at 5nl

Hand 1 C/F flop, the open is fine but there's so many boards that are better to cbet than this one, just think of the flop as being somewhat connected with the 87 and with the K there's 3 overcards to your pair, if you bet and get called you can only really continue on an ace so it's not a good spot to bet imo and you're going to have to fold C/F far too often. If you're using your hud check to see how often he's folding to steals, if he's only folding something like 60% then you can double barrel flops like these at a high frequency as his preflop calling range will be somewhat wide, if he's folding 90% like a large % of the player pool does at 5NL then this board is a give up. If you watch the video I posted notice how I play in the SB and which boards im cbetting. Say you open JsQh from the sb and the bb calls, flop is 9s5h3h, this is a perfect board to cbet as you have 2 overcards, a 3 straight and 3 flush which means you can double barrell at a high frequency. Say you open 6s7x and the board is 9sTsKx even though you have a gutshot and 3 flush this board becomes a terrible one to cbet because there's 3 cards higher than your best pair, you're rarely folding out a better hand and your bdfd has little value. In your hand example with the 44 it's extremely hard for your hand to improve on the turn, you turn a gutshot but still have to end up check folding. Remember delay cbetting is also very effective, by that i mean checking flop and betting turns, people aren't aggressive at 5nl so it's not like they're cbetting at a 100% frequency once you show weakness. Let's say with the 44 you check and he checks back, if the turn pairs or a low card peels off it will be a profitable cbet at these stakes.

The AA there's nothing you can really do besides bet twice to build a pot, you could consider checking flop if he's someone who is donk betting at a high frequency or attacks when shown weakness, it's obviously very hard for him to have anything on this board that can continue when you have top set. Don't 3x pre, 4x everything, even your weak hands. You can 3x if your opponent has an awkward stack size like 80c or something to entice him to call instead of shoving if you have a hand like JTs or something. I would have bet 35c on turn, 40 just looks scary for whatever reason when in reality it's only a one bb difference. You played the hand fine really I'm just nitpicking, there's very little you can do, you WANT to build a pot with top set and the easiest way to do that is by betting multiple streets, don't worry about the second hand. Focus more on improving your play in the SB

Sorry if my post seems abit incoherent - haven't been grinding much lately
